What's new

USU at Utah 2013

Good game. Fun to be at. Aggies gave the Utes fits with their quick hitting offense and a great defensive line and blitz package.

I had a good time at the game. Met tons of classy Ute fans. I wish the outcome was different but hey... A few plays go differently and it's a different game. Good luck Utah the rest of the way.

Utah's offense already looks light years ahead of what is has been over the past few seasons.

But that defense???

They couldn't defend Travis Van Luven. Marquis Lee and the rest of the PAC is gonna have some fun. Utah better concentrate on its offense and hope to out score opponents in some shoot outs.

On the bright side, there's no way Utah loses to USC this year. That team looks like they've already quit on Kiffin.

Utah's front 7 might be better than advertised.

What? You guys pretty much got killed in the trenches for 75% of the game and your linebackers still can't cover anybody. Your kicker is probably better than advertised though....because nobody has ever heard of him.

I don't know why anybody thought they would be any better this year. You don't get better by losing more scholarships and having to replace Matt Barkley and Robert Woods. Just because they had a great run on spectacular QBs doesn't mean it was going to continue forever. They don't have a capable QB right now unless his name is possibly Max Browne and they are too scurred to play him because he is a frosh. They have limited scholarships, and injuries have piled up. I'm pretty sure SC just sees Kiffin as the guy to put up with their penalty years anyway, and then he is gone. They'll be back to being USC in a few years, but they'll still beat Utah in the meantime.

The problem defending Utah state begins and ends with Chucky. That guy made plays that kept Utah state's offense on the field. In the last quarter and a half USU had 4 first downs and one of those was the last drive where Utah was just defending against the TD and gave it to them.

Okay, if you say so. It should have been apparent to everybody watching that game though. Without Chucky I'm not sure that team scores 10 points last night.

I like what I saw. Orchad and Reily are going to be playing on Sundays and while the LB's got picked apart in coverage for much of the game, I think Keeton had a lot to do with that and I see young players who I think will continue to improve. That Aggie O-line is talented and has played a lot of games together. I could make the argument that Utah State will be the toughest QB/O-line combo that Utah will face all season.

My two biggest concerns coming out of that game are Utah's CB's and WR depth now that Kenneth Scott is lost for the season. I'm very interested to see how Utah's D plays against BYU in a few weeks. The Cougars have better RB's and WR's than USU, but it sounds like the O-line could be downright horrid and Taysom Hill certainly is no Chuckie Keeton. Hill could probably kill Utah all day long on deep throws to Hoffman but Im not convinced he'll have enough time to do so.

Fitzgerald didn't look too bad filling in for Scott. But yeah, competition should be noted. I was pretty impressed with Utah State. I think I had them at 8-4 or 7-5 or something in that prediction thread. But I'd say they are good for 9 now after seeing them even with that first game loss if Chucky can stay healthy.

Agree with you on Utah State.

On a side note, how great is it right now for everybody in the state of Utah who loves football?

Utah State is better than they've ever been, BYU is playing the best schedule in school history, and Utah is playing possibly the toughest schedule in the history of the state. I've always felt BYU needed to go Independent after Utah left but I didn't think they'd be able to schedule so well this quickly. Props to Holmoe and Co.

Nearly every weekend is going to see some great games against great opponents for each fan base.

Wish I could watch the replay of the game. Thought Fox 1 would replay it today.

PS: I got kicked out of the stadium in the 1st qtr for having booze and had to sneak back in. Missed Murphy's TD in the process. Kinda pissed.

do the MORMAN police patrol the aisles?

I guess.

They saw my flask belt. I'm gonna make a thread about the whole experience in the UGLI forum.

Lets just say not being a douche bag to cops is a good route to go.

Guy who got busted at the same time as me and was in the little police room thing with me ended up getting tazed and I assume arrested. He challenged one of the security guards to a fight and asked them to "step outside" to settle this lol.

I just said, "ya I'm retarded. I've been drinking all day and I'm drunk so I forgot to even try and hide it."

Cops let me keep my Muss tix for the year, didn't taze me, let me keep my flask belt, AND let me keep all the booze in it (wtf?) They did escort me out of the stadium though. I walked to the other side of the stadium and tried to go in that entrance, my ticket showed up on their scanner as being flagged, guy asked me why and I told him I went out for a smoke. For some reason this was sufficient for him and he let me in and showed me where the designated smoking exit is for next time lol.
