Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Since Wynn got hurt this offense has done absolutely nothing. At the time I said they were in trouble if he's out for a while.

Lets just hope they can beat Oregon State.

3 blowout loses with no offense and a win against the one team that had a worse offense that they did.

On a side note consider me completely unimpressed with Norm Chow. Why did we scrap our spread offense for this garage?

Hey once all the best players on the Ute offense got hurt, nobody was predicting any undefeated seasons.

And despite the apparent incompetence from the haters, the Utes can still finish second in the South if they win out (which they will).
You are the true definition of blind homer. I love it.

Completely agreed. Granted he hasn't had much to work with with all the injuries. But I expect better from someone with such a great reputation. Hays is his guy, so he should at least be decent. The guy looks like he should still be playing jc ball so far.

You guys will probably go 2-3 or possibly 3-2 in the last 5 games. 3 top 15 passing offenses coming up. Arizona is for sure a loss, Colorado probably a win. The other 3 are toss ups, but no way you escape with all 3.

Well we can bet on any of those games if you want. No way is Utah/Oregon State a tossup, Utah/UCLA a tossup, or Arizona a for sure loss. Lol, hilarious.

Whit and his staff better have some recruiting strategies in place to drastically improve the O-line and QB positions. Getting QB Travis Wilson as a solid verbal is great, but you need to make sure this subpar season doesn't scare him off and you better plan on getting a 4 or 5 star QB committ every year for the next little while if you seriously want to compete.

I still believe in Whit and this team's ability to compete in the Pac 12 long term, but man this is ugly. With that being said (since I still see BYU trolls popping in here), I'd rather have this reality check and have a true guage of where my team is at and what they need to do to improve as opposed to feeling all warm and fuzzy about blowout wins over Big Sky and WAC teams.

BYU's upcoming game against TCU should be a pretty good reality check for us Cougs. But I agree with you--until BYU proves something against real competition, BYU fans shouldn't be talking smack. Utah did kill us, after all.

If you think the Utes are going to lose again, which game are you predicting the loss? We can bet right now, give you a chance to get your money back from that BYU blowout.
Do I think you'll go winless? No. Are you going to win out? No again.
Utah currently sits tied for fifth (last) in the south division. Arizona St. and USC have already beaten them and are three games ahead of them in the loss column. Good luck on climbing out of that cellar into 2nd place.

USC has tough games ahead of them (Stanford, Washington, Oregon). USC doesn't count anyway as they aren't eligible for postseason play. They will still lose some games though. Utah doesn't have anymore tough games ahead.

Utah has Oregon State, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State, and Colorado. If you think I'm a blind homer for expecting Utah to beat those crappy teams, you're crazy.

LOL It's not like Cal had a stellar PAC-12 record before playing Utah.

This O-Line is the worst I can remember in some time at the U and has to one of the if not the worst in the PAC 12 and same goes for the QB situation, not to mention the worst LT in the PAC 12. If they had a good one of either it would help hide/mask some of the issues of the other but when they're both bad this is what you get.

With that said, going on the road with out your starting QB, best WR and starting TE not to mention the incumbent starting RB had to "retire" due to concussions left the RB position thin it shouldn't be unexpected to struggle a good deal (also not counting the minor injuries on D and other positions as every team deals with those game to game).

About Chow this was the first game I was disappointed with the play calling, very vanilla no variety and very very conservative. However it's not like Hays or the O-line gave the coaching staff a reason not to be but like I mentioned in other threads you can't coach and play not to lose cause it puts the word "lose" in your mind and that's exactly what you end up doing.
Heck on the first drive for the U they almost hit a Anderson for a TD if Hays would've at least threw the ball in bounds to give him a chance and the coaches never went back to those plays until the 4th Qtr when it was too late. Also since the Cal D was over playing the run and blitzing a lot why not call anything to take advantage of their over aggressiveness, not saying the players could've or would've executed it but it at least shows the coaches are trying and not resided to giving up.
