Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Your ability to see just to the end of your nose never fails to amaze me.

Heaps is never coming to Utah, so you can relax.

The fact that you hate him makes me like him even more. You've been about as wrong as one person can be about how this season is turning out. Glad I didn't book my Rose Bowl trip in advance.
Don't you know? He NEVER said that Utah would be in the Rose Bowl.

Care to back that up with something? What was I wrong about? That Utah would compete for the Pac 12 South? And here they are poised to finish second (at least tied for second) after one of the most injury plagued seasons in recent history?

Please show me where I said Utah would be in the Rose Bowl. Or do you just like making crap up about other posters to make yourself look better after such a stupid statement? Heaps was never an NFL prospect, and likely never will be.

No worries Bronco, I got your back.

Mr. I never said Utah would be in the Rose Bowl. said:
Just remember, blowing chunks in your opinion or not, the Pac 12 champ goes to the Rose Bowl. And maybe even the national championship, with the second place Pac 12 team going to the Rose Bowl.

I can see it's really going to hurt BYU fans when Utah is in the Pac 12 championship game while BYU is preparing for the nobody cares bowl.

Utah, on the other hand, doesn't have to worry about any of that. If they win the Pac 12 Championship game, they are in the Rose Bowl. And if they lose the Pac 12 Championship game, they still go to the Rose Bowl if the Pac 12 Champion is in the national championship game (which is not a far fetched scenario at all).

All I was saying is that it's not too far fetched that Utah could lose the Pac 12 Championship game and still play in the Rose Bowl this year.

Utah sucked last night, no doubt. But Utah can still be in the Pac 12 championship game.

Utah is still very much in the running for the PAC 12 South. In fact, if Utah wins next week, the division is Utah's to lose.

If the Utes win the rest of the conference games they still have a great chance to be in the Pac 12 championship game.

I'm still very optimistic. Maybe some Ute fans don't realize this isn't the MWC anymore and the Utes are still in this thing? 2 losses in the MWC and the season would be over. But the Utes still have a legit chance to play in the Pac 12 championship game. And anything can happen in 1 game, so if the Utes make it to the Pac 12 championship game, the Rose Bowl is not out of the question.

I'm trying to figure out if you're trolling or if you really don't understand?

Just in case, dude, the Rose Bowl invites the winner of the Pac 12 championship game. Saying Utah will compete for the Pac 12 South is NOT the same as saying they will WIN the Pac 12 South, then WIN the Championship game.

Saying something is technically possible is not the same thing as predicting it will happen. and if you thought I was predicting it would happen, you should have tried to bet if you thought it was outlandish. I wouldn't have bet, because I knew darn well Utah wasn't beating Oregon or Stanford in the Pac 12 Championship game, even if they did win the South.

Nice try, but you're on an epic fail roll the last few days and this is no different.

Either you have no idea what you're talking about and somehow think those quotes mean I was predicting a Rose Bowl for the Utes, or you're just trolling because you have nothing of value to add. No telling which, it is coming from you.

Please show me where I said Utah would be in the Rose Bowl.

Please show me where I said you said they would. Hint: hyperbole doesn't actually count.

Heaps has a better arm than Wynn, and doesn't go down with a season ending injury every season. Heaps shortcomings can be fixed... Wynn, I'm not so sure.

Is that a good enough answer for you and hobo, or am I still not allowed to espouse this opinion?

Well that's better than saying he's an NFL prospect at least.

I guess we'll have to see on Wynn. I'm not so sure a healthy Wynn (if he ever gets healthy again) is worse than Heaps. And I'm not so sure Heaps is any better than what Utah will have at QB next year either.

He's definitely better than Hays, but that isn't saying much.

Well that's better than saying he's an NFL prospect at least.

Yeah, in retrospect that was a little over the top. He certainly is not that now, and he would need to improve dramatically. Two things that make me think he could still be a great college QB: he's still just a soph, and he's been playing for Roscoe Mendenhall, who has done nothing right in managing his QBs since Heaps showed up. You give him a decent HC and, if he's willing to listen, he rights the ship.

Utah's QB situation wasn't good, but is exacerbated in the PAC12. I think (naively, maybe) that Heaps can be just as good as the likes of Foles, Barkley, Osweiller (sp?), and such (not as good as Luck, but that goes w/o saying.)

You do realize that would be like coming in 3rd place in a beauty contest when there are only 2 contestants?

There is a severe drop off between the 2-3 good teams in the PAC-12 and the rest of the league. Utah is not amongst the 2-3 good teams.
Well good thing Utah doesn't have to be among the top 2 or 3 teams in order to be among the best in a 12 team conference.

As long as your happy being the Colorado State of the PAC-12 I guess we have no more to discuss.
We're not the Colorado State. Utah is going to a bowl game, and likely will be going to one every year. As Whitt pointed out, this is rock bottom for Utah. It will only get better from here. Rock bottom for Utah is still among the better teams in one of the best conferences.

Does Colorado State beat BYU by 44 points in Provo?

Nope. They lose. Just like Utah loses to USC, Cal, ASU, WU, etc.
There is no "etc" there. You listed all of Utah's losses. Colorado State already has more than that, and they have more than that every year.

Like I said, Utah is one of the better teams of the Pac 12, even when Utah has an injury plagued year and is at rock bottom. Colorado State hasn't been one of the better teams in the MWC in a long time.

Tha Pac 12 is a 12 team conference. It's not the 8 team MWC. So for Utah to be among the better teams in the Pac 12 even when at their worst, is nothing at all like Colorado State always sucking in the MWC.

Now BYU, you could make an argument that BYU is like Colorado State. After all, BYU is the team that can't beat anyone with a winning record, like Colorado State.

There is a severe drop off between the 2-3 good teams in the PAC-12 and the rest of the league. Utah is not amongst the 2-3 good teams.

And yet BYU has not beat a team even good enough to be 2nd tier pac-12 in how long? Not this year or last year. In fact when was the last time BYU beat anybody who was even slightly above average. Was it 1984? Sure seems like it.

Trout brought back one of Salty's old posts here and I just realized Salty was wrong (I know, it's hard to believe). Salty said this:
Just remember, blowing chunks in your opinion or not, the Pac 12 champ goes to the Rose Bowl. And maybe even the national championship, with the second place Pac 12 team going to the Rose Bowl.
Oregon won the Pac championship last year. They were in the NC game. Which Pac team went to the Rose Bowl? That's right, none. I seem to recall that the Rose Bowl is obligated to take the highest ranked non-AQ team (if they're eligible) in the event that either conference champ goes to the NC game. That's why TCU went to the Rose Bowl last year and Stanford had to go to the Orange Bowl. It may never happen like Salty thinks it will.
