Not really. All you really need is a database, hosting and domain service, and phpbb or some other forum software. I learned it as I went.

You should put a domain forwarder on utahredzone.com to direct it to the forum folder. Being able to say the site is "utahredzone.com" instead of the /forum will attract a lot more users.

What kind of software does your hosting account use? cPanel?

Godaddy has their own control panel. They have options for both "redirect" and "forward/mask." If I do redirect, I can't access the site at all. I'll try forwarding now
