Exotic Animal Trophy Hunting

Trophy

I don't support. I just don't understand killing a zebra, a giraffe, etc.
Only way I would kill an animal is to eat, to control population, safety risk.
To do it to put their head on my wall just doesn't do it for me.

How about the most dangerous game. We could have a lottery system. Could put Hillary's head on your wall. Heck if she volunteered she would be giving you head. Her own head. So to speak.

Interesting. Not sure how comfortable I'd be placing animals like lions in the hands of private corps though.

That has to be qualified, of course. I'm sure you aren't against zoos that have attempted to save many species. Maybe I should put this in the peeve thread about the new anti-zoo lunies?

I think I agree with you but it's more of for 50-100 year term reasons.

I've been to Africa on a photo safari, and I know several big game hunters. I have absolutely no interest in ever owning a dead animal, but I'm 100% convinced that the habitat that remains would not be there if not for hunters. Also, without legal hunters and the protection they fund, illegal poachers would devastate the population of animals. Not only does the revenue generated through hunting make it possible to protect the animals, but certain species must be controlled. For example, if the rhino population is not managed then rhinos migrate into farm areas where they decimate crops, infuriating the farmers and the human population. If that happens it emboldens poachers who will kill an elephant for nothing but the tusk or a rhino for nothing but the horn.

Hunters are the largest group of people that care(beyond a passing fancy)about habitat and healthy animal populations. Conservation advocates make a huge mistake when they shun hunters. Franklin brought up Teddy Roosevelt. It isn't a coincidence that the president that made conservation a thing was an avid hunter.

Absolutely true. The mountain goat herds around Utah (one prominent herd often seen on the south face of Little Cottonwood Canyon for instance) are there because of programs run by hunters. I know one of the hunters most responsible for this particular project.

Here's my issue with the sort of hunting mentioned by the OP. If you're an "avid hunter" and go on one of these expeditions, is that supposed to be impressive when the company with their locals lead the hunter essentially right to the ****ing animal? Seriously, as a hunter, one would feel good with this as if it's impressive to add to their trophy case. ****ing lame as ****. Do the "hunting" yourself.

What about the guns? Did they build those guns? If they are real hunters they should carve a bow out of wood from a tree they chopped down while using their own pubic hair to weave a bow string. Only then can they be true hunters.

Pretty sure that pubic hair would not make good bow string material.

I mean, I wouldn't do it. Most of my diet comes from wild game tho.

I wouldn't call Grizzlies exotic or rare either.

Can't wait until they delist those buggers. Definitely gonna put in for a tag.

Spending thousands of dollars to fly to kill an animal in their habitat for your trophy is ****ed up.
