What's new

MEDIA DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thinking about Hayward, he's gotta lose some quickness with all that added mass. But last year was the first year that he really seemed to relish taking it to the hole. He's gonna become the Mailman and kill people with his inside game. I see tons of free throws in his future.

Hayward could definitely play some 4 if he were needed there. He definitely won't get outmuscled. And I dare anyone to give him a wet Willie this season. 'Roid rage would have him knock out some teeth.

Quin mentioned that if the subs are pushing up a lead, guys like Hayward and Favors might get extra rest. So Gordon's stats may not increase, but I think he'll be a more efficient player and hopefully not wear down by March/April.

Notes on this mornings practice Per Twitter:

Tony Jones: George Hill knocking down corner 3's like its water

Tony Jones: The Jazz ran a lot of the scrimmage portion of practice with a 14 second shot clock, instead of the usual 24 seconds

David Locke: "I got to the paint multiple times in scrimmage now I've got to get to finishing" - Dante Exum

Tony Jones: Dane Exum said the biggest challenge with his jumper right now is getting more arc. When he misses, he misses short. Exum also said he's a better shooter now than he was before the injury.

David Locke: George Hill "you don't know how good Gordon Hayward is till you play with him"

Tony jones: George Hill called the first practice for the Jazz this morning "intense"

Snyder mentioned that Burks is doing everything but taking contact. Held out of that part.

Also says that Exum has his burst off the dribble back. "physically he looks great".

Snyder said " lots of similarities joe has offensive versatility that Rodney can have."

Mentioned better D rebounding late in game

More pick and roll, particularly early in the clock

Emphasized "connectivity" about the first practice.

How is Burks still injured?

No details that I have seen on twitter beyond he is almost 100% and doing everything but contact in scrimmage.

Edit:

Tony Jones via twitter: The Jazz didn't make this official, but it doesn't sound like he's going to be available, at least for the preseason

That seems like an awfully long time...surgery was June 7th... is there something being hidden?

Of course you will find more heavy weight guys on the position in the opposition but the thing is if you have a guy like Hayward who is an absolute blessing in all-around game and if he bulks up enough to play the 4 at times, and you have a roster that you can fill the first 3 positions with players like Exum, Hill, Johnson and Hood, while under the rim can be left to Gobert or Favors on the occasions, you have the right too feel very good and comfortable my man.

So many opportunities that can come out of this roster. I hope things do not stay at the expectations level and actually become something.

That's some strong words from Hill, who played with Paul George the last several years. Hayward could beast this season.

I'm sure I've said this three years in a row now, but this is legitimately the most excited I've been for Jazz basketball in a long long time.

09/28/16 Locked On Jazz Podcast notes:

- All the Jazz media day interviews are up

- Yesterday had 2 practices, morning was more open scrimmage, afternoon was more scripted with set plays

- Lots of offensive work with the bigs, mentions Favors/Diaw pairings and Gobert/Lyles once subs start rotating in

- Dante looked really good, he's ready. Getting wherever he wants on the floor, needs a little finishing work once he gets to the basket, better handle, speed/burst/quickness are still there. "super exciting to see"

- Hill ran the team immediately from the start of open scrimmage, controlled the game

- Lots of focus on defensive rebounding late in game

- Huge emphasis on early front side action, early pick and roll

- Talk about how the 3 point shooting should dramatically improve with the addition of Hill, Diaw and Johnson and who they replaced

- Mentions of how "huge, huge, huge" Gordon Hayward is. Strong

- Burks is very active, just no contact. Locke thinks this is a non story since Burks is involved in everything actively except actual contact

Thanks for the updates stoked. Keep them coming.

And you created my favorite thread of the year last season and kept it updated.
I would love it if you would do that again please.

fishonjazz which thread specifically? The playoff race thread?

I'm loving all the little signs of how dedicated this team is and how hungry they are.

Practice isn't for an hour and Favors and Mack are already in the practice court with coaches working on their game. (per David Locke's twitter)

That's the one.
I know that it's kind of lame to have it too early in the season but I like how you would post games of teams we were fighting with and who we should be rooting for.

I think to open the season im going to root for whoever is playing against the clippers, grizzlies, and blazers the most.

I think the #1 seed is a lock for the warriors barring any major injuries to their stars. I think the #2 seed will go to the spurs cause I think they are kind of like the patriots: doesn't matter who is on the court as long as pop is ruining things they will be good.

I think we fight for the 3, 4, 5, or 6 seed and believe that the clippers, grizz, and blazers are our biggest competition.

OK, thought so. I plan on doing that with game 1. I agree with you on who I am rooting against starting out. We will see how that holds up.

I plan on having the standings like last year in the OP and update them regularly. Then in new posts I will frequently posts that days games and results of games the day before.
