Mitchell will be the first to tell you that he has to get better when it comes to shot selection, so in that regard as well as their physical style of play, yes, he's got some similarities to Smart, especially when he left college. However DM has a higher ceiling offensively with a much more polished shooting form and to me his IQ is a bit higher, while not being much of a floor general right now by NBA standards, even in limited minutes. I think he's going to need time, he needs to learn how to play under control on both ends to better help the team and stay on the floor, and I don't necessarily view him as a future All-Star, but at the same he'll be able to contribute right away in 20-25 MPG and he definitely has the tools and the upside to become an excellent two-way player.

Lyles, Burke, Burkes (I don't really include him. But he has regressed with Q)
So all guys who seem incapable or unwilling to pass within the system, and or run the system. Also all guys who were terrible on defense and did not seem to care about that end of the floor. Does that sound like Mitchell? Because I haven't seen that at all.

It's a bit too early to say how mitchell will or won't run the system imo. I'm gonna need more than zero games to come to a conclusion.

I'll concede that point. But none of the other guys showed at any time, even in the summer league, that they cared as much about defense as Mitchell already looks like he does.

Agreed. I don't think we have to worry about Mitchells effort on the defensive end.

I think a good scenario would be developing into a player kind of like Avery Bradley. That's what I'm projecting him as. I'll be happy if he hits it, and surprised if he ends up better. But as far as this year is concerned I think he'll thrive much more in a more structured offense with talented players. I don't think he's ready to run plays and actions as much yet, though I'm cool with letting him have opportunities. He's going to probably be a nice safety valve and floor spreader that can take advantage of closeouts and make plays that way. Kind of like how Dante has been used, but his game is really suited to that early on where those are Dante's weaknesses.

Can't wait to see this kid perform at the big stage. No early explosion hypes to force. Just wish him a healthy rookie season.

What???

No.

If you look at TS% and EFG%, Hood is below league average. Problem is he never gets to the line.

And thats the thing here I think people are missing. Hood will never be able to replicate Hayward's production because even on nights when Hayward was awful shooting the ball, he'd get to the line so his final numbers/efficiency looked pretty decent. Hood will never be a guy who gets to the line. That's just not his game/his body type.

Watch the tape.

At one point Hayward was below average in those categories too. But if you watched him play, you knew.

Now Hood isn't as good as Hayward, obviously, but watch him play. He is not below average.

Hayward getting to the line is a relatively recent development.

Very true.

And I don't think Hood will ever be a guy that gets to the line a lot. Not his game.

We have to realize Hood has never really played with somebody who has consistently been able to get him open shots. Rubio will do that. And that threat will make Hood more dangerous at attacking closeouts and cutting for layups/mid range shots.

Not really lmao. He has an extremely steady FTR throughout his career, which peaked 3 years ago. He is always in the high 30% though.

Hood's highest FTR was his rookie year at 21% (Hayward's lowest was 33% in his rookie year) and it has gone down each year. Don't even try to compare their ability to get to the FT line because it isnt even close. Hayward has always been good at it, he just didnt get the ball enough until later on.

Even if we gave Hood the ball all the time, he would still have putrid FT numbers unless he drastically changes something in his attacking style.

No, it's a flat out falsehood.

Btw, Hood will also never be able to stay as healthy as Hayward. There just isn't anyway Hood can become Hayward for us consistently. Next year will be interesting on the offensive side of the ball.
