Best Utah Jazz starting 5 of all-time

. Personally I think Sloan handled things fine.

Sloan said himself he did not handle situation with AK well and wishes he could have done better job. ( I think especially since he picked DWill over him as his favorite and he stabbed him in the back pretty much). If he admitted his mistake why it is so hard for some fans to see it?

That's why I went with fine. He made mistakes, I'm sure he would say that about a long of things. I'm sure he does wish he did a better job. He probably wishes he did a better job with Malone as well or even Stockton. Overall Sloan is a HOF coach for a reason. I blame most of AKs problems on him.

Dwill was a much better player than AK. AK could not dream of carrying a team as far as Dwill did. Choosing dwill over AK was not a bad choice.

AK just couldn't hack adversity. He was mentally weak. He didn't practice hard or push himself.

John Stockton
Donovan Mitchell
Adrian Dantley
Karl Malone
Rudy Gobert

Too soon to include the two active players? Maybe I should have called it "projected" best starting 5 of all time.

Gobert is a close call for me next to Mark Eaton still and Donovan Mitchell is just that special.

100% agree with your top 5. AD absolutely has to be on the list. He was a beast

AK was able to lead underdog Russia team in Eurochampionship to a gold medals over Gasol and Parker at their peak and to bronze in London Olympic games in 2012 when he was supposed to be washed up veteran. Placed in right situation under right coach he fluorished.

Yep, that's not the NBA. Nor is it really comparable.

I guess Jimmer just got misused in the NBA, or Morris almond. They both were great in other leagues.

You can't have your team carried by AK, but he could have been the Draymond Green of his time which would make him immensely valuable, the ultimate glue guy. We always end up setting up artificial choices ie it was DW or AK, the key to being a great team isn't in the chosing, it's in making it work. AK would have been a fantastic Draymond for the Jazz.

I agree AK could have been that guy, unfortunately he refused that role.

More or less that is the role he was put into. He could have been that guy but he pouted.

Green and AK might have opposite personalities. Green takes defense as a challenge. AK would only play defense if he got enough touches on offense. Plus Green is very strong physically and mentally unlike AK.

AK tried to force those choices and lost.

Green is also a well like teammate off the court. AK was anti social. He read books in the locker room and team bus instead of talking to his teammates and played world of Warcraft way too much instead of working hard to get better.

How do you know he was antisocial? That he does not join f... some whore together with DWill, Brewer, Price and Miles after the game in Portland? How is reading classic novels in locker room any worse than listening to vulgar rap through your headphones? I think you are reaching here, any source I have read - he was well liked by teammates.

It is not a league. It is Olympics and European championship.

It was well documented he didn't hang out with any of the team and would do guy own thing on the plane and bus. The media travels with the team and talked about it all the time.

Sorry, but point still stands. It's not the NBA and isn't the same thing.

That's great he did something against subpar competition. Lots of players do that and don't cut it in the NBA.

lol subpar? Did you even bother watching ? Prime Gasols, Fernandez, Garbajosa, Calderon and Parker is subpar? Argentina with prime Ginobili, Scola, Nocioni, Delfino is subpar as well?

Sounds like Stockton to me as well. That has nothing to do with your perception as being antisocial or not liked by teammates.

Yes, that is subpar to the NBA.

So he was All Star, All defensive team and made history books as the only player in NBA to get 5X6 in regulation time but was such a scrub that he did not cut it in NBA. Whatever, I am out of this discussion.

I dont think he was a scrub. He just never hit the peak of Hayward and was a huge disappointment because of himself, not all the people and things you are trying to blame him for.

My point is that being good in Euroleague doesn't matter for this discussion, its not the NBA. Its subpar and lots of players are good against subpar competition that dont cut it in the NBA. I am not saying AK didnt cut it in the NBA. Its just not something that helps your argument. Being good in a different basketball forum that is subpar and has different rules doesnt mean anything about his NBA career.

Even after watching AK’s allstar year, I never thought of him as a guy that could carry a team on his back to a championship or even a long playoff run. He was never going to be lead man material. Fact is he got paid, then stopped improving

Kirilenko was extremely bad. I have him ranked as the worst player of all-time - barely beating out current Sabonis and Valanciunas, who are the 2nd and 3rd worst players of all-time

Jazz all-time : Stockton-Hornacek-Dantley-Malone-Eaton
Today's game : Stockton-Hayward-Ingles-Kirilenko-Gobert

I'd actually have Horny over hayward in today's game. I loved his game, he could do some crazy stuff when he wanted to, and he was a great 3pt shooter. I'd also have Malone and Dantley over Ingles and AK. If they could do what they did during their era, they would be able to succeed in today's game. I would keep Gobert over Eaton though. I know Eaton was a beast, but Gobert is as well, and Gobert's scoring puts him over the top.

I lean towards having Pete in the lineup, but I think I would have it be Stockton-Hornacek-Dantley-Malone-Gobert
