The Biden campaign is using the rhetoric testing the best in focus groups. It is all just a show. Kamala Harris can stand on a stage one day calling Joe Biden a disgusting racist who didn't want girls like her to go to school, and a handful of weeks later laugh it off as she joins the ticket. Where we get into trouble is when people don't understand it is all a show.

After JD Vance was announced as Trump's VP, Biden went right back to his usual "they are the end of democracy, literally Hitler and we need to put them in a bullseye to kill them right now" campaign rhetoric.

That’s understandable to me. Although I doubt I’ll be able to google up Biden saying “kill them right now”. Strange thing to put in quotes.

I greatly admire the courage of demonstrators in Putin’s Russia. Always wonder how many times can they do that without paying rather dearly. I greatly admire their courage.

I recall Trump wanting to use our military against American demonstrators in his first term. Even asked if they could be shot in the legs to disperse them. I expect I will be transferring my admiration for ordinary citizens of Moscow, to my fellow Americans, and demonstrations against any act, words, decisions by Trump. We will see dissent in America met with extreme force, if Trump has his way.

So, yeah, of course the warnings should continue. Don’t expect much positive to come of it now. I expect Trump 2.0. I expect some degree of Christofascism to be pretty ascendent in Trump’s next term. I expect we will experience, to an uncertain extent at this pre-second-Trump term stage, a little of what’s it like to speak out in Putin’s mafia state. Or maybe a lot of what it’s like.

Not sure my personal response, but Resistance is enlivening, it has that positive aspect.

Even with Biden in rapid cognitive decline that everyone sees, Trump leading in the polls, leading in fundraising, being photographed with blood on his face beneath an American flag with his fist in the air, the Democrat will win the election. The system that has been put in place is powerful enough to overcome all of that. No GOP candidate can win a national election.

Exactly. If that's all he did then the Biden campaign wouldn't be calling trump a threat to democracy.
But when you do actions with the intent to subvert democracy, whether they succeed or fail, then you are a threat.

Unfortunately, I think he's wrong. At this point, the election isn't a battle of changing minds. Everybody knows how they feel about Trump or Brandon. The question is of turnout, activation. Every fist thrown up in the air mere seconds after being shot and nearly killed (badass moment btw) increased hog turnout to the max in every important state. Biden? nobody is excited to go vote for Joe Biden. If anything the non-hogs are voting against Trump and any fence sitters on that matter, between Brandon being super old and the events over the weekend, lost interest or are voting for Trump now.

Brandon might have a chance in a popular vote contest today, but the EC calculus gives this to Trump all day. Unfortunately, and for various reasons, we don't live in a Democracy.

My issue with the overall narrative is that the US presidential election isn't democracy. We elect our presidents via the Electoral College, and the EC isn't democracy. The EC is a 'threat to democracy'. The system we have is a threat to the system we don't have.

The storming of the capitol was obviously unacceptable but challenging changes to the system in court and questioning the robustness of voter tallies is not only allowed but should be encouraged. Stress testing systems is how systems are improved in every industry, every discipline, every field. Florida is the prefect example of how the voter system improved after being found to be inadequate following the 'hanging chad' bruhaha in Bush v Gore.

Trump's team did push everywhere to argue things were broken, and the system now is stronger, has been hardened because of that stress testing. The EC is now stronger, has been hardened because of that stress testing. If you think the EC is a threat to democracy then Trump is a threat to democracy due to the EC system being more robust. I personally think it is more robust in a way that won't allow a GOP candidate to win but I guess we'll see in this upcoming election.

If the election were within weeks I'd agree, but there's time for things to change.
