Kendall Marshall - Our next PG Hope

The question is how good would some of those guys in UNC be without Marshall? A pure PG makes everyone around him better offensively.

Barnes, Henson and Zeller are doing good no matter what. I'm not arguing whether or not Marshall makes them better or not, I'm saying that Rivers is more important to Duke than Marshall is to UNC.

Nope. Marshall is more important for sure.

There were also questions about MarShon Brook's level of competition last year and he slipped big time. But it seemed to have worked out well for the Nets.

I would have thoughts scouts would have looked at a lot of other things as well to determine if he can succeed in the NBA (handle, shooting, etc).

Well gee, thanks for telling us why Cy. You sure are making some great points here....

Because he averages close to 10 assist per game and is the leader of the team.

10 apg = 20 added points (at least, some are 3's. Not to mention passes leading to fouls). Add to that 7 ppg. He accounts for a large portion of the UNC offense.

Duke relies more on floor spacing than any one player. And for all of River's "clutchness" that guy can't even hit ft's.

River's could be easily replaced by another 3pt shooter. I think it would be hard to find someone who could run an offense like Marshall does. Thus making him more "valuable".

That's all I wanted. Thanks for sharing your points, they're good ones. I respectfully disagree with you, but it's really not something we can prove unless both of them have season ending injuries at the same time.

After watching that video I'm super impressed by not only his court vision but his basketball IQ. NBAdraft.net has up taking him with our pick.

Seems like a pretty smart, clued up guy, with good character (the guy had a bible passage tattooed to his arm!).

Oh my good god, I clearly explained it in that post. If Rivers is running our offense he will dribble around for 15 seconds in at least half our possessions and do one of 3 things....

With Rivers running the point expect a lot of post up, and Al is by far the teams best post player.

With Marshall running the point expect much less post up and more movement on offense which suits Favors and Millsap more, which isn't Jeffersons game.

I want the bigs to be slashers not just post players.

Happy!

I forgot to "This" this when I saw this. Here's my "This"

The Jazz run a few options on each play on their offense and typically the very last option is to post a big (unless we actually want to post up a big)
...this is why Al/Sap get so many possesions per game.

I'd rep that post, but I don't think I agree with the 'Rivers driblling for 15 secs part'....too bad there's no half rep.

I posted this in the draft thread, but thought it was worth posting here, as well.

I like his handles, athleticsm, and shot....but are all his assists to wide open 3 pointers? That's not really court vision...

In fact, a lot of times, he's missing guys who could have wide open layup guys.
Take 3:40 for instance. That white guy is screaming for a layup.....and Lilliard shoots a 3. That's a frustrating play to see.
Yeah he made the 3, but 60% of the time he wont...the white guy could've made that layup easy.

At 4:47, he takes the shot and could've gotten a charge when a guy was open for a dunk.

I stopped at 5 minutes....color me unimpressed with his PG skills but impressed with his SG skills.

.. go easy on him, that highlight was from his freshman year.. LOL

It's from when he was a freshman, so I'm sure his court awareness has gotten better. Also, I've seen other highlights of him making very good passes in the pick and roll. Oh, and tonight I believe he had 30 points and 8 assists (5/10 from 3, 13/14 from FT). He can penetrate, shoot, and get to the FT line at a great rate. The dude flat out knows how to score, and I think his passing is adequate.

Lillard's FT shooting alone would make him fit right in. He's shooting 88.7% this year.

Consider a close game. Need a 2 pointer to win. Just give him the ball, clear out and let him go to work.

.. and then there's the 44.8% 3 pt percentage...

Yep, exactly what I think about him. He's great as a SG, but not as a PG IMO. Unless his decision making vastly improved.
