What's new

Deron is coming back to Utah.

If DWill doesn't end up with the Lakers, Mavs or Knicks, I could see him considerIng the Jazz. I don't see why he'd go to Denver. Also, the Nets could still trade for Howard and find a way to keep him.

I'm surprised how many people are still butthurt about Deron in here.

Look-- he's a top 5 PG in the league who can run a pass-first offense that Utah desperately needs. I would be ecstatic if Deron re-signed in Utah. He's never been a 'me-first' type of person as some people have been saying. He had a bad, selfish season in NJ because he had a bad team and HAD to be selfish.

I can't believe there are seriously people in here who would not want a player of Deron's caliber on this team.

For those of you who think we're better of without a star-- please drown yourselves. If Hayward or Favors develop into an allstar, I don't expect anyone to say "Welp, better trade him before his ego gets too big." You'd hold on and never let go.

I think there's less butthurt about Deron and more of people who don't see it as a reality .. so why worship him. I, for one, just see him as any other top PG .. no hard feelings, nor any romantic notion of a reunitment .. just get a great PG .. Deron or someone else ..

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think we have a snowball's chance in hell of landing Deron. If it were a possibility though, I'd jump right on it. I'm hoping Utah at least talks to Deron and Nash this offseason.

There are just a lot of posts in here that have me shaking my head.

For the record, I would welcome him back with open arms.

But it's never going to happen. KOC will never do it. Why? Because it'll be like the biggest middle finger to NJ and to every GMs in the league. It's like saying "HAHAHAHAHA I SHAFTED YOU GUYS FOR FAVORS, KANTER AND HARRIS AND I STILL GO BACK DERON, AHAHAHAHAHA"

No way KOC does that. He'll lose all credibility and integrity to operate in this business. What happens when we have to move our next star player? Nobody will answer KOC's phone.

That's sad. It's a damn business. It's the GM's job to assemble the roster to run at a championship, imo. GSW is a great example of screwing themselves in future negotiations (tanking), but to think there's some wink and a nod that a team can trade a player and, all the while, know they'll get him back is absurd. No one in the NBA would think it was some big conspiracy. If it were the Lakers, maybe .. maybe .. but the Jazz? NO ONE would believe it was all pre-planned (except for NJ fans).

Wink & nod or not it's still not a good look. You and I both know GMs operate a lot on trust & favors and the relationship between them is vital. If KOC eventually signs Deron back to Utah - don't you think Billy King would be mad? Wink & nod or not, just the fact Deron came back to Utah would have meant that KOC had opened up the "possibility" for Deron to come back. To King that would pretty much constitute a "stab in the back".

I don't know, you may be right .. I'm no expert of the NBA (barely a novice, for that matter). I have great contacts in the cbb world that obvioulsy bleed over to the NBA and, aside from that, I tend to look at the NBA purely as a business, perhaps to a fault. I probably shouldn't have stuck my nose in this thread because I admit I don't know the behind-the-scenes NBA.

While the bath tub is filling for my drowning.....

I don't miss Dwill, the Jazz are more entertaining without him. I wanted him traded when the Jazz drafted Maynor, his attitude was a cancer from day one. It was a shame it took so long to move him but kudos to KOC for getting a steal.

The league does favor superstars, and the jazz need to find or develop a superstar, but Deron never was and never will be a superstar and he was on the refs so bad that they never gave him a call. IMO if he ever wins a championship it will be on a team with a bona-fide superstar.

Whew, stop the tub. I just re-read Xsy's post. And he said:

For those of you who think we're better of without a superstar-- please drown yourselves.
And I agree, the Jazz need a super star. But Deron isn't one.

I'm no expert neither but a good example of the relationship thing I was referring to was when Boozer went to Bulls. It was a sign & trade for 5 years (not the maximum 6 years, although he had a bird rights with Utah). So in fact Boozer could have just signed with Bulls as a FA as he didn't get the 6th year, but Bulls' GM did KOC a favor and did the sign & trade anyway to give Utah Boozer's trade exception which KOC used to trade for Jefferson.

Bulls GM didn't need to do that but he did it anyway... business wise it made no sense to go that extra mile... but obviously there is a relationship thing there between KOC and Bulls GM.

Cool. Thanks for the example.

Deron Williams will never, ever play for the Utah Jazz, ever again. Unless in the twilight of his career or something, but even then, probably not. I was a big DWill homer. I was sad to see his attitude last season, and sad to see him go. But man, he had to go.

Deron is NOT coming back to Utah. I mean....who likes being traded and finding out about it on espn in the weight room?

This team has a playoff game in 6 hours. Who gives a flying **** about Deron Williams? Dude is watching from his couch.

When Deron opts out, I'm willing to bet that the Millers/KOC don't even pick up that phone. Once again, sooo many Jazz fans throw out reasons as to why Deron will never play for the Jazz again while forgetting to mention the biggest reason: He'll never be asked to play for the Jazz again. Hard to sign with a team when they're not offering you a contract.

If KOC doesn't call, he should lose his job. If Miller tells him not to call, the Jazz are screwed. Was Deron perfect? Nope. Is he an elite player who liked living in Utah and could come back? Maybe. You have to call him. As good as Nash or Dragic would be, Deron is better.

And screw trust with other GM's. Having Deron sign in Utah as a FA, could be the first step in changing the perception of Utah to other free agents.

Anyone else find it funny that he said he will decide by July 6? It almost seems like he already knows where he is going.

Another thing, with the boos he got last year at the ESA, I bet if he came back, he would receive one of the loudest ovations his first game.

Maybe, just maybe, KOC is smart enough to realize he doesn't need to pay max money to a tempermental PG. Especially when he has built up a young corps of bigs. You win championships with bigs, not with PG's. As great as Steve Nash has been, he's never won a thing. Jason Kidd was never able to win a ring until he was on a team in which he wasn't the focal point and the bigs were.

Don't get me wrong, Deron on this team would be deadly. The problem is, Deron wants max money. Tha'ts not going to work for Utah. Bringing in Deron at max money eventually means saying goodbye to some key pieces on this team that we are currently excited about. No thanks.
