What's new

#2 pick

I'm not gonna make you pay up as I think the statue of limitations has expired by now, but you were extremely confident that a Mr. Ronnie Price would adorn a Jazz jersey last year.

I was surprised not to see him as our 3rd point guard but with Sloan gone it made more sense.

Why would they take Big Al?

Think of it through their eyes... After being historically bad they'll trade a future (good/great) player for Al Jefferson (who has already capped out and is probably on the downside of his career? Who will bolt as soon as Charlotte doesn't give him a new contract?)? How does that ignite interest into their franchise?

Barnes makes sense. A local guy with great potential and who is at least exciting. Watching Big Al play basketball is about as entertaining as watching Greg Ostertag fish. yawn.

I would only trade for #2 if I knew Portland would give me 6 and 11 for it...

This. Very much this.

Al + Burks (gulp) + GSW '13

#2

for

#6, #11

Lineup in 3 years (at the very worst!):

PG - Lillard
SG - Lamb/Rivers
SF - Hayward
PF - Favors
C - Kanter

That doesn't factor in who you might move Harris/Millsap for, or what player you could sign with that cap money (imagine us going into 2013 FA with Millsap, Harris AND Al off the books, and that young nucleus above).

I just jizzed.

If this happens I will personally Rep everyone on JazzFanz twice over.

You overestimate the Bobcats. There is less to them than meets the eye.

I think the Bobcats are looking at Robinson as being the #2 player in the draft, and they're not terribly excited about it, especially because they want to develop Biyombo as a defensive PF. Robinson can't play C. K-G and Beal are nice players, but they would normally go 5 - 7 in a normal draft.

If the Jazz offered Kanter and the GSW pick, Charlotte might go for it, but I'm not 100% sure the Jazz would because I don't think they want Robinson necessarily either.

I could see this deal happening:

Jazz send Kanter and 2013 GSW pick -- take back Portland's 2 picks to draft Lillard and maybe Terrence Jones or Harrison Barnes (....or Terrence Ross Ha!).
Portland sends their lotto picks --- takes Charlotte's #2 to draft Robinson, Beal or K-G.....or maybe Drummond if they believe in him.
Charlotte sends #2 and a player -- get Kanter and Utah's 2013 pick

Portland's picks at #6 and #11 aren't really that sexy when you consider there's a perceived drop-off after 5 and probably 9 or 10.
When did this go from being the greatest draft in years to below normal ?

Sometime during the college season when Barnes didn't improve much, PJIII and Quincy Miller lacked motor, Sullinger turned out to be a bit shorter than expected, Beal had a mixed season, J. Lamb looked like he took a step back from his freshman year, Marquis Teague didn't look ready, and people figured out that Kidd-Gilchrist couldn't shoot. But nobody disappointed more than Drummond whom people thought would be a sure thing.

I wouldn't say it's below normal. Just not as strong at the top as people were expecting. It's still a deep draft overall, especially for semi-talented PF/Cs.

Meyers Leonard was nowhere to be found. Lillard emerged from small-school oblivion. Royce White, Harkless, Moultrie .. Marshall moved way up.
I agree with most of your post, but there are as many that have emerged as those that we feel are a bit less skilled.

Unfortunately, so did Portland probably unless they're excited enough about MKG or TRob to do this deal.

Scoot on over with the Austin Rivers love. That's my territory. Kid will be a solid can't go wrong pick.

Haven't we already been down this road? I am on that train. I won't try to claim starting it but I was really interested in him early on. He will be a solid player.

I believe Rivers will be very good scorer and a inferior defender. I would take him on the Jazz but I don't see him as a starter on a really good team.

Nice quote re: Davis .. (also, consider that Bobby Knight HAAAAATES Kentucky)

“I’ll tell you exactly what Anthony Davis is — he’s a young Bill Russell … And Russell was by far, and will always be, the most valuable player ever in sport.” — Bob Knight, former college coach

I'm sure all of Jazzfanz is on the Rivers bandwagon now that Rivers let it slip that San Antonio is trying to move up to snag him. Jason might as well change the name to Spursfanz with all the SAS jocksniffing fans on this board. Probably more Spurs fans than Jazz fans at this point.
