Jazz May Be A Part of 3-Team Deal w/ Clippers

Don't give me that ****. You're the one that threw this butt-****ing retarded scenario into the works of an otherwise fully functional discussion. If you're going to take scenarios completely out of context, own it, don't act like I am the moron here.

As it stands, I tried to take your head-in-the-clouds bull **** and turn it into some kind of practical comparison, which is more than you can say.

no you're trying to win an argument you've lost by reframing it in a fantasy world where indy was making a choice that, in reality, they never could have made.

and NOW you're trying to destract by flinging personal insults and swearing at me. both very classy approaches, btw.

but whatever, i'm over this argument. my original point still stands: the if the jazz get mo, they'll turn around and get something of value for harris, and chances are really good they'll get something better than what san antonio got for a bench point guard with outstanding abilities.

He probably needs more time. His market will be more clear after the draft. Mo Williams is looking out for Mo Williams. That is what he has to do, I don't blame him. He isn't being selfish, he is just using his leverage to maximize himself. Teams do it constantly, why can't players?

i would totally agree with you, except that he wasn't worried about "the market being more clear after the draft" when it was the clippers. he wasn't worried about "using his leverage to maximize himself" with the clippers. his decision was made until 6 hours ago when the jazz were mentioned.

Unless Los Angeles Clippers guard Mo Williams enjoys throwing away money, the Mavericks will soon be rid of Lamar Odom and any financial obligation to him for the coming season.

The Mavericks have agreed to send the troubled Odom to the Clippers, who in turn will ship Williams to the Utah Jazz, who will send a trade exception from the Mehmet Okur deal last season to the Mavericks, an NBA source said.

All three teams have agreed to the deal. All that has to happen to make it official is for Williams to exercise the player option on his contract for next season, which would pay him $8.5 million.

Williams has until Friday to opt in, and if he doesn’t, he will become an unrestricted free agent and would be very hard pressed to earn even half of that annual salary on the open market, the source said.

What it means for the Mavericks is that they can trade Odom before having to buy out the final year of his contract, which would have cost them $2.4 million. That money now will not be applied to their salary cap and gives them even more financial flexibility heading into free agency.

It won’t improve the amount they can throw at free agent Deron Williams – he is going to receive a maximum contract regardless – but it might help in the recruitment of other free agents or, with the newly acquired trade exception, could be useful in trade scenarios.

Odom was never going to return to the Mavericks and the only reason he wasn’t waived before the season ended was precisely because of a situation like this where the Mavericks could get rid of him without having to pay off the final year of his deal.

agreed - not liking this at all.

This. Mo would probably be the better play in our pound-it-to-Al offense, but its pretty much lateral at the end of the day. We should refuse to make this deal unless we pry away the 17th pick from Dallas as well. Now that would make me one happy-*** camper.

But wow, a lot has happened in the past 5 hours that I was away..

Look at this year's draft class and draft order. I doubt there's a team in the late lottery that would prefer Harris to their pick. Please, for once, actually go take a look.

Would you rather have Harris or Zeller/Henson/Leonard/Sullinger/Marshall/J.Lamb/P.Jones/T.Jones? Which teams in the late lottery would prefer Harris to their pick from among several of those names?

Mo Williams, Clippers try to 'find a solution'

By Ramona Shelburne

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Mo Williams has said he does not plan to opt out of the final year of his contract, which will pay him $8.5 million next season. However the situation isn't as simple as that.

Williams' agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPNLosAngeles.com Wednesday night that he and the Clippers are trying to "find a solution" to the situation. Namely, Williams is a former All-Star point guard who spent most of last season playing out of position at shooting guard and coming off the bench following the trade for Chris Paul and the acquisition of Chauncey Billups.

"Mo's a professional and I think he showed that last season," Bartelstein said. "He had a great year under difficult circumstances. That said, he's a starting point guard. He's an All-Star starting point guard. So we'll look at everything and see what makes sense."

Williams has until June 30 to make a decision on the final year of his contract. Bartelstein said both he and the Clippers are "kind of exploring everything" in the hopes of finding a solution that works for both sides before June 30.

You are wrong sir. He was going to wait til June 30th to make a final decision regardless what team he was on.

This is no different than the Jazz waiting till the last possible second to opt in to Demarre Carroll's contract. The team (or player) explores every option, then waits to see if new options will pop up.

I'm sure Carroll would love to know if he is going to get paid next year so he can buy his mom a new car, but he has to wait til the last second on the Jazz. The Jazz would love to know how exactly to draft, but they will have to wait on Mo Will.

I pulled an all nighter two nights ago and went fishing all day yesterday out in the sun. I've slept all day and this is the first thing I've seen. I guess I have 20 pages I must read now.

We are helping our team too.

Our biggest weakness is outside shooting. Mo Will is a 39% career 3pt shooter. What don't you understand about this? We are getting a career 39% 3pt shooter for nothing. He might be a little overpaid, but it isn't hurting us long term.

I'm sorry but you're a complete ****ing moron if, as an owner and GM, you would sign off on shelling out nearly 9M on a guy for one year to marginally help our outside shooting, maybe or maybe not as a starter.

devin harris' career PER is almost 18 and has been as high as 21. george hill's highest year was barely over league average (15.7) and he was coming off the bench for 25 mpg and not even closing playoff games.

hill>harris?! ridonk.

You must've missed the part where GVC brought up age and salary into the equation. I'll add in the fact that Hill's a better defender too.

Sure, if you want to catch up on all the petty bickering. Long story short, Odom to the clips, Mo Williams to UT, trade exception to Dal, all waiting on Mo Williams to opt in for his final year.

Well I guess our ownership and GM are complete ****ing morons just like me.

If what Mo's agent is saying is accurate, perhaps Mo would be willing to pick up his option if the Jazz trade Devin. It's possible this gets taken care of tonight.

The only reason I would approve this deal would be if it was the stepping stone for subsequent moves this summer (or even tonight). Adding Mo gives you the flexibility to move Harris - which would both lower team salary and not force Utah to take on any extra contract years - a huge plus in my book.

On the court - it would also give Utah the flexibility of playing 2 PG's in more effective stretches to match up with an opponents speed, and despite Harris' a career year shooting from behind the arc, Mo is definitely a better 3pt-shooter than Harris in halfcourt situations. I don't see any upgrade in terms of distributing the ball, and durability-wise neither Harris nor Mo is particularly an "iron man."

Simply adding Mo along with Harris to tagteam the PG position for 2012-13 gives Ty another toy to play with and more options in the backcourt, but overall makes little sense it in the grand scheme of things, and I would be surprised if Mo agrees with it seeing as how he could easily be a backup PG/SG for a more successful team in a bigger market. He'll be 30 at the start of the season and knows this is his last chance to secure a multi-year moderately handsome contract so I expect he'd prefer staying in LA over being PG 1B in Utah.

Yeah, that would seal the deal for sure. I think Williams is just worried about being stuck on a bench again and not being able to up his contract value in FA. I think he is confident enough to beat out Harris either way, even if we have both.
