Gobert and Favors in the Paint on O - How to Manage

1-5 is the spine of the defense, when you start each defensive possession making it hard for the PG to see his teammates, to find lanes to move or pass the ball into, when you start that possession by making the offense lose 8 seconds or so before getting close to being set, it makes everything...

Gobert and Favors in the Paint on O - How to Manage

Strengths seems to be the biggest issue. The way he has a hard time keeping the ball in the paint, getting stripped to ofen, the way he struggles to push through defenders on the way to the rim, etc.. I mean that's the difference between an ox like Drummond and a pterodactyl like Gobert right now.

GAME THREAD: Jazz at Hawks 11/15/2015 6pm EST

From a purely results driven point of view, going 1-3 isn't good. We should have won one more, but the team is growing and outside of the Magic game competed hard.

    Installing a culture first

The Pop-Duncan Spurs are an anomaly in the history of the league. The league has either had teams that were very good for a long time but never quite made it (Jazz...), teams that perfectly exploited a short window in time (The 94/95 Rockets come to mind, the bad boys) or teams that were...

Jabari Parker will be better than Andrew Wiggins

there is plenty of time. he is coming back from injury, the staff has him focusing firts on other aspects of his game. I don't know how good he'll be, but i know it is way to early to judge.

    Do we overrate the Jazz?

I don't think people overrate this team. Most observers would say that this team is growing and will be battling for a PO sport, à la NO last year. Whether they make it is another issue, but as long as the team is in the run till the very last games, it is where it should be. Now re the...

    GT: Jazz @ Cavs 11/10/15 5pm MST

As others have said, a great game. Seeing it's a holiday in Europe today, i stayed up to watch the game, well worth it. A few observations : - Lebron is damn good, one of the most clever running backs in the game. As someone said, we got lebroned and that happens a lot in this league. - This...

Portland Trailblazers @ OUR Utah Jazz TODAY at 1900.

Yeah sometimes it happens, the Jazz defense wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. What killed the team was poor, to much settling for shots instead of going for the extra pass that gives you a great shot. You can see this in the very limited number of TOs : the offense was too conservative, and...

    Jazz Defensive rankings

Most likely no, never. To have such fluidity isn't just repetition starting age 24.. There is a talent there, honed through time. No if Gobert can have a decent hook shot to 6/8 feet that would be tops. if he can shoot FTs at 65% or more + learns how to become an aggressive roll player, thant he...

    Realistic Burke value

Problem is that he has to become just less than dreadful in defense...

    What happened to Gobert???

Oh I agree, I was just saying what I consider should be the priority. But Gobert is still fantastically limited on offense and it is a very distinct possibility that he remains so throughout his career. At least he is a decent FT shooter. If that was to dip... then yuck.

    What happened to Gobert???

Gobert is going to stay near the Rim, that's where you want him. So developping a 10 feet shot is not the priority on offense. More important is a quality hook shot on both sides up to 5/6 feet. THAT would make a big big difference, the rest is frosting. IMHO of course.

    What happened to Gobert???

Several things, some worrisome, others more conjonctural : - Preseason after an intense summer with the NT, probably lots of hard training going on as well. So there is a formal of mental fatigue / difficulty to get properly motivated. Once the real season starts, motivation will be there, bad...

Ok this game will be fun ,Tuesday OKC vs Utah

It's quite true, but on the other hand they learn so much from that experience playing for the NT.

    ESPN NBA Rank 2015-2016

So true. It makes no sense : many of those players are very talented athletes lacking that extra "thing" but who could be very good contributors in the right situation where they can confine themselves to a limited role à la James Jones in Miami with Wade and Lebron for example. All rankings are...

    MEDIA DAY!!!!! ALL ABOARD!!!!!

Boom.. That was just awesome. I liked also what he said about how much he learned from the Euro tournament and the defeat against Spain. It really can't be underlined enough : big competitive games in a "winner takes all" environment are what makes a team grow. People like to say that the...

Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

This also why these international tournaments are so important for players' development and growth : Gobert will have learned a lot in this defeat, in being beaten by Gasol, in being tricked into fouls, etc.. All this on a "winner takes all" game, in front of 27 000 fans, with massive pressure...

Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

A fair bit of sour losing on the french side (and I am French). Truth be told yes Gasol had the refs in his his pocket, but once a pattern is established, it is the team's job to adjust accordingly : Gobert is a great defender already, but still young and left repeatedly 1on1 against Gasol, he...

Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

I agree to some extent. The whole "he would be sick with a jumpshoot" is secondary : he is so big and fast you want him near the basket or rolling to the basket. Nevertheless developping a functionning short range game is essential : if he can hit that 5/7 feet hook shot, then you have all you...

A Sign That Jazz Players Have Bought In?

Meh... this is part of the problem with the NBA : the season is humongously dense, but too short... players don't need to be on holiday from end of april (for half the teams in the league) to early november ! Players would be in better health with 82 games spread over a longer period of time ...
