What's new

2011 draft.....

Player no one has talked about for our possible 2nd lotto pick- Donatas Motiejunas. 7'0 PF/C. Has loads of potential and could replace Memo. Elson and Fes probably won't be brought back. Could stretch the D very nicely for Milsap, Big al and Favors

NBA Comparison: Andrea Bargnani

Strengths: Versatile lefty bigman with a high ceiling ... Has a lot of potential due to his size, agility and offensive development ... A finesse 4-man with excellent versatility, but shows the toughness to play inside with contact ... Shows a strong ability to run the floor and change directions, start and stop ... Has great legs (strong) and feet (quick) ... Has inside/outside ability with the ability to defend inside and play with his back to the basket, as well as knock down shots on the perimeter ... His outside shot has both range and consistency, and he has begun to develop some excellent moves including a jump hook, a turnaround fadeaway as well as fakes to draw opponents off their feet and excellent footwork ... Shows a competitive fire. He has a strong desire to win and improve, he just needs to show that at all times ... Gets off the floor quickly and has solid explosiveness ... A solid shot blocker ... Comfortable handling the ball when necessary to break the press and has solid vision and passing ability ... Has a very good body and appears that he will be able to add upperbody strength and become a solid rebounder and interior post player at the NBA level ...

Weaknesses: Is extremely talented and he knows it. At times he doesn't keep the pedal to the metal, exhibiting some lapses in focus and intensity (laziness) in practices ... Sometimes appears content to be better than others without dominating them the way he's capable ... That's the type of thing that he'll need to mature out of, learning to work hard at all times in order to reach the stature of a Gasol or Nowitzki ... Still needs to add polish on his moves on the perimeter but has excellent potential to do so ... Has thin arms and upperbody, although he has solid strength. He'll need to get stronger to contend with NBA bigs ... Solid length (6-11 wingspan) but nothing extraordinary ... Not as experienced or established as other European talents (such as Gasol or Nowitzki) were when they entered the NBA.

he is definitely fleet of foot for his size. and quite anti-clumsy with a good touch handle.

No softy, big shooting euro's please. Their post games are completely nullified because of their lack of strength. His 6-11 wingspan is pretty bad actually, Millsap's is 7'0 and he has a hard enough time. Kanter is the only one that interests me from the international seen. He has an NBA ready body, moves fairly well, and doesn't mind contact.

If the jazz do keep there own pick, with this draft class supposedly being weak they should trade down and get Nolan Smith as are backup point.

He could learn under Harris a few years develop and take over.

Good idea or not.

I like Motiejunas. I think he'll be a liability on defense but he's got that cocky swagger the Jazz don't have anymore without DWill. I would probably go with Kanter though.

Just say no to lazy, soft bigs that don't board or defend. There's only been one Dirk for a reason.

Right, and on the other hand, some nimrod GM traded Dirk for Tractor Trailer. Pretty sure he's dead now. Or driving a truck. Same thing.

Point being, another Dirk is out there most likely. Might be good to get in on the ground floor, rather than guy trading one away.

risk/reward?

I dont think Donatas is soft. I think he would be a solid pick if he fell to 12-14 range. His potential is through the roof. Who else would you take at the 12-14 spot, just curious

My point is exactly the opposite. There's only been one player like Dirk ever so why are we to assume that there will be another? Besides, Dirk had drive in spades and this kid doesn't appear to have any to speak of.

If the Jazz draft this kid with their own pick and Irving, Williams, Perry and Terrence Jones, Barnes, Kanter, Valanciunas, Sullinger, Vesely, and Walker are of the board, then I guess chancing it on someone that might be Bargnani isn't bad.

Highlights include, but are not limited to, shooting a free throw, speaking, dancing, a weave passing drill, stretching, more speaking at a press conference, getting fouled, chest bumping, sitting on the bench, slapping hands, high-fiving players during intros, more speaking, taking off warmups and throwing gang signs, scrimmage footage from a practice, more scrimmage footage probably from that same practice, another free throw, more bench footage this time him screaming from his rear-end, sitting in an ivy garden, more weave passing drills, him laughing his *** off, and last but certainly not least, ABSOLUTELY NO IN-GAME DUNKS BY A GUY STANDING 7'0".

Color me ****ing impressed.

If we have a chance to draft him with our second lottery pick and don't, it'll come back to haunt us.
I'm sure all of you have heard of the dreaded "Motiejunas Revenge."

And if Donatas is supposed to be the next Andrea Bargnani, that is incredible. You do realize Andrea was the number 1 pick right? This kid shows more fire than Bargnani and has a lot better handles.

If Favors is in the low post, it's not a bad idea to have a PF who can spread the floor. The question is whether Donatas can defend and most importantly, can he rebound? He's only averaging 4 or 5 boards in Europe.
