2023 NBA Draft Megathread

i wouldn't know how to quantify it either. i sorta assumed you saw something somewhere.

i'd say that's normal for OADs. look at anthony edwards. patrick williams. cole anthony. scottie barnes. Zaire Williams. jalen johnson, jeremy sochan. jalen duren, lamelo in australia. - these guys weren't exactly dominating people and putting up huge stats or leading their team to great heights. it's entirely normal for OADs to struggle from a stats perspective and to have trouble leading their team far in the tournament.

Semi related, but there were only two freshman in the top 25 for LEBRON metric (one of the better "catch-alls" out there). Obviously Miller is there, but his teammate Clowney being on there might surprise some. I think Clowney is underrated when you look at how good he was despite his age. Fantastic defensive season.

If there becomes some major Bilal is French Giannis hype and he is there at #16... I would probably be more likely to sell the pick and move back and capitalize on the hype that way.

We are all tough badass internet GMs so we have no issue going for the super sleeper foreign player 5-10 spots early... when your job is on the line you typically play it safe. I'm like 95% sure Bilal is there at 16 if we want him.

Danny Ainge's job isnt close to being on the line though. He's got immunity. He can probably take whoever he wants.

On the main team he's shooting 50% from 3, but it's on .7 attempts per game while shooting 56% from the FT line on 1.2 attempts per game.

Bilal put up some big numbers for the U21 (essentially B) team under Met 92: "Coulibaly struggled to get on the floor for the Metropolitans' senior team in the first half of the season, seeing most of his time in the U21 Espoirs league, where he was the best player in the league and averaged 21.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.5 assists per game."

Bufkin is going to be one of the risers before the draft. He’s still super young for being a sophomore. He’s barely two weeks older than Wallace. He’s younger than Miller and younger than the Thompson twins.

14/5/3 on 48/36/85 shooting splits and I think his jumper is super nice. He’s able to get it off quickly as well.

I could see us go with Wallace/Dick/Hendricks at #9 all are pretty safe picks... going with Bilal (assuming Hawkins or Wallace or someone else kinda wild doesn't fall) and then going for a Colby Jones (TJD, Jalen Wilson) or someone like that who should be able to contribute sooner rather than later.

I also think we could end up moving up from #28 and going for Kris Murray.

I just don't see us getting too wild with the #9 pick.

I like him a lot. The video is more impressive than his numbers. He's nasty and seems like a solid defender too.

He got on a hot streak so I'm a little worried the 3 numbers could be fluky since its such a limited sample size. Based on production he should be ahead of Keyonte. I would be ecstatic with one of Dick/Wallace/Hendricks at 9 and Kobe at 16.

I wouldnt be pissed/shocked if we took Bilal or GG at 9. I think 9 is kind of the first acceptable spot where you reject the consensus big boards and just reach for the stars.
I would be.. both guys feel like a guess and guys that will be there at 16.

I think this is totally fair and more reasonable....but at the same time we all expect Ausar to go top 9....and for what reason? He appears to have amazing physical tools and dominated some really bad competition. Sounds familiar.

The twins have been on radar for years and Bilal just came out of nowhere after a 28 inch growth spurt...but it's not that crazy to see him go lottery imo.

I'd put Miller, Dick and Hendricks up against those guys in terms of production.

I'd rank Miller/DIck/Hendricks in the bottom half of that 6 man grouping as far as Freshman production went.
Bring on the stats! Because really the best way to see who had the best production is to compare the production of the players

I mean that's a good point BUT guys get anchored to a range sometimes... I don't know how different the levels of competition are between JV french and OTE... but I would absolutely be willing to risk waiting on Bilal until #16. It would be a pretty rare rise. If that is the guy I'd consider moving back a few spots from #9. I would not reach.

I mean Ainge moved back from 1 to 3 because he knew he could get his guy at #3. I doubt he reaches for GG or Bilal at #9 since he already has the #16 and would have the ability to likely either move back or up if he loved one of those guys.

yeah, that makes sense - and i think you'd find it looks very similar most years in terms of OADs vs two year+ guys. advanced/impact stats are generally not kind to freshmen from power conferences. you will have outliers like Miller, Bagley, Zion, etc - but generally speaking OADs playing in power conferences struggle with efficiency and overall impact.

Bilal's lack of aggression and only recently joining the senior team will keep him from rising too high - it's a red flag. But it is not unheard of a player to flip a switch. He just had a growth spurt and another could be coming - it is not surprising that his style of play is adjusting.

I think packaging #16 and #28 might get the Jazz up to #14 or #13 depending on other circumstances. In other words, the Jazz might have the ability to chase someone in the late lottery.

no question. historically speaking i think that tracks pretty accurate. those two picks could absolutely move them up 2-4 spots if there is a player they like and think he will be gone.

Taking dick at 9 is not safe.
