They should do it like they do it in European soccer - let incumbent team negotiate extensions, new contracts etc. any time during the length of the contract. Let other teams negotiate with players 6 months before their contract is up.

That'd be great... incumbent team should be allowed to offer some sort of extension at any time... would help retain talent or know where they stand.

I know they want to save teams from themselves, but those big mega contracts only hurt the big spenders for the most part... shorter contracts really hurts non-FA destination spots.

What are you talking about? The dude just took a massive pay cut and injury risk to go there. He's going to make $22 mil instead of signing a deal worth somewhere around $180 mil. That doesn't spell one year rental, it tells you he wants to win.

Also, weren't you the one saying Beverly plays just as good of defense? So what. CP3 has been on the all defensive 1st team several years and also has the offense to go with it. He shredded Utah in the playoffs.

I officially hate the NBA. Utah has better assets to offer and a better situation. Why the hell wouldn't CP3 want to come hear instead of there? The NBA is the only major sport where players punish small market teams. The population of Green Bay metro is a whopping 300,000.

Chris Paul, James Harden, Ryan Anderson and Capella do not scare me one bit. IF IF IF they get Paul George, they might be good. Until then, they will leverage the future for a shot with an old team. This reminds me of the Nets.

I don't think CP3 is a great fit in Houston, which is why nobody considered this trade. Obviously Paul is a great player, but I don't think he'll be fully utilized in Houston's run and gun system, with Harden competing for ball control.

Golden State is still the only super team in the West. San Antonio has Kawhi/LMA, Houston has CP3/Harden, Minnesota has Butler/KAT, Clippers are getting ravaged. Jazz have Gobert/Hayward (if he comes back.)

Nobody has Curry/Durant/Thompson/Green.

In the East, Cleveland has James/Love/Irving, but are hard pressed to upgrade anywhere else. Boston has IT/Harford and a bunch of assets. I'm not buying their "super team" potential. Golden State and Cleveland are still the top two teams to beat, and options to close the gaps are limited. Both those teams are going to struggle with repeater tax issues in the next few years. Can't keep them together too long - especially when max contracts start coming due.

If Utah traded for George and resigned Hill, we'd be the second best team in the NBA:

This trade reminds me of when the Lakers and Rockets both went out and got Dwight Howard. No real regard for how he actually fit the team. . . just that he was the best big name on the market. Won't surprise me AT ALL if the stickers somehow talk the Knicks into unloading Carmelo Anthony onto them as well. Houston is trying to become the new banana boat team instead of the Clippers.

Rockets want to move Ryan Anderson. I would mind not a trade of Derrick Favors for Ryan Anderson and a First Round Pick. Anderson paces the floor better and fits better with Gobert in the starting five. Rockets need flexibility and Favors contract saves them $7m per season and has 2 less years.

That's 4 first round picks, at least 2 lottery, spaced well. As well as an expiring that will have value at the deadline. I'm not sure anybody's going to be willing to beat that. I also think that the Jazz don't need these guys. I don't think that losing them sets the Jazz back horribly even if Paul George turned out to only be a rental.

Reality check. The Rox finished ahead of us last year, just upgraded their starting point guard spot in a big way, and have made a WCF in the last few years unlike us.

Going to agree with Cappy. Don't like this trade at all for the Jazz, even though I agree that those pieces < PG13. I'd keep one of Hood/Exum and use Mitchell to replace whichever gets traded in the lineup. Everything else needs to be expendable. Burks/Favors/Diaw for salary matching purposes. The 2018 draft picks to add value to the deal. Jazz have options to put a quality deal together.

DL said they are more traditional when asked about the CP3 trade... basically I think we need to think smaller when talking trades.
