Gobert will never be as good as Favors. You are talking about the Kanter-Favors dreamteam for years and complaining about their playing time, bashing AL Jefferon, Tyrone Corbin and Paul Millsap for it. And just after seeing an skinny 7.1 Big Man, who plays a solid summerleague and scrimmage match, you will give that up for it ?

Pleas guys stay classy and stop beeing childish !!!

---------------------------------------------

Gobert never has the potential Favors has, we are not talking about an 16 year old right now even if he is looking like one. We are talking about a player who is in the same Age as Kanter (a few months older i think) and just one year younger than Favors. Favors could be a Dwight Howard light, with a better Jumpshot and with Kanter it could be the best BIG-MAN dou in the game.

I still could barf seeing that 50 percent Voted for Gobert against Favors. It really just needs a few solid games in meaningless competition to destroy the dream of Favors + Kanter the twin towers. I hope Favors will not end up like AL infornt of some fans...

I can just see it coming... "..... dumb Corbin letting Favors taking away Goberts minutes..." "mimimi mimimi mimimi"

-------------------

Where is AK when we need him ???

Frenchy's ceiling is Ömer Aşık for the next 5 years that lie ahead. If he can shoot too, that's fine. But first I need to see him crossover Durant.

No joke. People are so crazy on this site. Lets put someone in who is not proven on offense or defense. Who is probably going to be worse at offense, and not as good as a defender. Yea that makes a lot of sense. These are the same people who just a year ago were saying Kanter was a slow pile of trash. Yet now he is their savior. haha

A friend of mine has a nephew named Bear. When she told me his name I was like "nickname?" She says "nope, that's his name."

Some parents are just mean.

My friend's brother's name is Bear. Maybe it is the same dude.

What?

Jesus, can't wait for the season to start.

A rotation with Gobert over Evans is probably the real study at present.

PG - Tyson Chandler : great length at this position. He just needs to get the ball up the court. No problem
SG - Tyson Chandler : great length at this position. He just needs to add a 3 point shot. No problem. 3&D.
SF - Tyson Chandler : height bishes!
PF - Tyson Chandler : great post defense. Speed to cover the stretch 4s.
C - Tyson Chandler : block parties every night.

This series of responses made me piss my pants.

I really hope not but I'm not completely sold on Favors. There's just something about him that irks me. Not sure what it is.

This is a stupid thread right now.

I guarantee that if favors stays healthy then none of our back up bigs will have a shot in hell at taking his starting job.

He is better in offense than he gets credit for and he is better on defense than gobert right now.... favors is going to be averaging 3 blocks per game, probably a double double, and be in the running for most improved player, defensive player of the year, and will miss the all star game but not by much.

Gobert will not even be close to ready to take favors job by the end of the year

Well if all that happens, I would love it too. But there are other factors to think about and take into account IMO, such as:

1. Contract extension - if Favors' camp is asking for the moon, could we afford it? Remembering that we'll have to re-sign Hayward and potentially give MAX to Kanter as well next year.

2. The lure of a potential '14 draft pick is gonna be there. We're not the Lakers or Houston that we can just keep signing big contracts and worry about it later. Financial flexibility has to be on the FO's mind. If trading Favors meant a chance at grabbing a top #5 pick, then I think Lindsey would have to think long and hard about what to do.

3. Gobert is the unknown quantity here. I'll admit I haven't seen him play much, but what I've seen so far have been promising. His learning/development curve is really really steep. He strikes me as a very very smart player in terms of absorbing all the knowledge and wanting to improve himself every time he steps on the court.

4. The poll question did not give a time frame - "the end of the year" thing was just my take because I can see contract extensions issues and the '14 draft coming into play.

I'm with fish on this. Gogurt is not and will not be better than Favors by the end of the year.

but...

by all means lets dissect their games based on the ultra competitive and cleanly played scrimmage.

Again, the by the end of the year thing was just my take on the situation with Favors' contract extension & potential trade for a pick in the '14 draft. The poll question clearly stated "eventually".

The Utah Jazz are so poor, that...

OK let's do it.
Yours is the 1st one. The Jazz are so poor that they can't sign a done superstar.

The Jazz are so poor that during the practices, they lift cheerleader buns instead of medicine balls.

That "something" is HUNGER. He's just not very HUNGRY (yet). To me it's much better to get a player who is "Hungry" and try to tone him down. And no, I'm not talking about Favors quiet demeanor. Tim Duncan was quiet, but you can see the HUNGER in his eyes.

This is GREAT STUFF guys - we'll look back in 1-3 years and let's just see who was right and who was wrong about this. I've been wanting to do one of these predictions thread for a while.

Actually I really love it that there is a great divide between the opinions (approx. 50/50 so far). Let's just wait and see how this thing transpires... Remember this thread is done just before the 1st pre-season game even starts (it's today!!).

And more important than him having a high metabolism, Tim Duncan was a good basketball player. Arguably the best PF in the game that could defend, and give his team 20 and 11 every night for 16 years, but 25 and 13 in his prime.

Well, could he? As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with him. He has size and an amazing triangular frame which means that he could put on plenty of lean muscle. He is plenty fast and jumps really well for his size. He appears to be mentally sound and intelligent. He has talent. The good news for us is that if we sign Favors this year sometime than we will have four years to figure it out before GoBear becomes a free agent, so we will have plenty of info on him. Do I think it'll happen? They were both drafted on potential, GoBear was late first instead of top three because of bad coaching and obscurity.

Yeah, I'm stalling.

Yes, it 'could' happen. Ya. It could. Nothing against Favors, but he's got to keep on his toes because there is a new player drafted every year, and this year it is someone who is as agile as he is but three inches taller with a wingspan that exceeds his already massive wingspan. It's all up to what's in their respective heads.

This.

Some good points highlighted above.

If you're "Hungry" it makes you want to keep improving and wanting to be the best you could be.

To me Favors is still only scratching about 60% of his total potential. I would put that down to his lack of "hunger" to improve. I desperate hope he proves me wrong, but to me that's where things stand ATM.

If you're "Full" it makes you want to poop. I know when I am all full and bloated I can't wait to get it all out.

If Derrick Favors asks for more money then Larry Sanders ya....

Rudy Gobert is like a hard working Hasheem Thabeet who cares. I don't know how Gobert goes 24 in one draft and Thabeet goes number 2 another.

YES, this is it. What ever, seems like we get lucky this time. I was very surprised that RG was that low in the draft. Lindsay did terrific job of stealing him from Denver for such a low prize. Nuggets could wait and sell him for far more next year or at trade dead line.

Anyone here play fantasy football?

This reminds me of all of the Jared Cook threads after one good showing in game 1.

Actually, it's worse, because Gobert had maybe two nice blocks and now he's better than our best player. If Gobert is better than Favors and that turns out to be true we are screwed for the next five years unless we get a top 3 next year.

I think we are screwed if Favors, as is, is really our best player.
