Dennis Lindsey: We will be VERY active in free agency

Well, Dennis it probably would've been a lot easier had you traded for a late 1st rounder before the draft had actually begun. We could've gotten Dejounte, Skal or Davis. No one had predicted for them to fall that low and the Jazz started to scramble after they saw that I bet.

This comment confuses me... how in the world would you know they weren't trying to trade for a late 1st rounder before the draft?

I think both Favors and Gobert could be talked into sitting at the start of games and occasionally fielding Millsap as a 3 against slower wings.
You just need them to buy in that they'll all avg 30-32 min and who plays more is decided by matchups and performance that night.
Gobert is just huge. And Favors is also very strong and a good rim protector who could demolish some small ball lineups together with Millsap as your PF. Millsap is terrific defensively as well.
I think that is a tough ask and could hurt in our chances to keep them long term. If you get Millsap, he's a starter without a doubt. He has earned that.

I just see it like this. Who is better for the next 2 years between Favors and Millsap? Millsap. Who is better in 2 years for the Jazz next to Gobert between Lyles and Favors? I personally think it would be Lyles due to Favors eventually losing a step, Lyles development, passing, spreading the floor, etc.

So we would trade Favors right now in the height of his value and we get better for the next two years. Millsap's comprehensive play, leadership and experience could make us contenders.

I don't think we will sign anyone of any impact. We will be very active is GM speak after a meh-draft. Not saying DL did a bad job here... Just that he says stuff.

He said we'd be very aggressive in the draft... I mean I guess we did get Hill but I thought when teams were selling crap off we'd go get some of that crap. Not saying we didn't try.

I think we can now safely say we know Dennis' MO. He likes to deflect attention away from real questions by talking about things that fans can't see. Players he almost traded for, players he considered trading, draft picks that were almost bought, players that nearly fell to the Jazz, FA's that he might have called, and success the Jazz almost had. It's an interesting technique, and effective for a new GM. I wonder if the effectiveness runs out over tine as the audience grows numb to the message.

That is the brilliance of the Lindsey technique. It shifts the discussion from real results to the examination of speculative what ifs.

Idk about that. Let's say I disagree. I think Favors ever improving and at age 26 entering his prime. I'd like to have Favors. I think he can destroy both the Cavs and Warriors. He's so underrated. Gobert will remain unplayable against certain lineups. They can just put him in PnR situations on the perimeter against the best shooters in the playoff. And Gobert cannot defend that. He can't switch. But against other slower lineups, he'll be a beast.

I'm not unhappy about how the whole thing fell out... I just think these statements are normal GM speak. Overall I'm happy with how the draft turned out... would have like to have gotten the cherry on top with a guy that fell. I'm greedy, but looking at it now... we needed to retain our 2017 picks and we may have not wanted to commit assets and a roster spot to someone right now.

What positions we need to fill backup SF, upgrade at fourth big.... Don't see a lot of aggressive moves there and I'd rather use the cap space this year to extend favs and hill. I don't want any salary beyond 2018 unless we got a core piece and for the roles we have available I don't see a core piece out there.

pretty spot the **** on. But I think you should get used to the idea of Bolomboy as your 4th big.

Shore up the back up C rotation and a back up SF.

Other than that we are good. I wanted to trade back into the first using Burke and other pieces but guess that didn't work.

So now:
Trade Burke for anything. 2nd rounder, foreign player rights...whatever.
Get Dudley(or another SF with a good outside shot) to back up Hayward
Trade Mack/Neto and Pleiss
Resign Withey and get another back up C

Gobert/Withey/Free agent(Bolomboy?)
Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
Hayward/Dudley/Ingles
Hood/Burks/Johnson
Hill/Exum/Mack(or Neto)

I wouldn't trade Lyles for Millsap straight up. Lyles could very well end up being better than Millsap. In fact, Lyles is still at least two years younger than Millsap when he came into the league, and probably better already than Millsap was at that time. Sap is good, no mistake about that. But Lyles has a lot of upside and many more years of productivity left.

Prolly... I think we get a combo forward, but it will be on the kind of cheap and be a really boring signing... Think Anthony Tolliver type of guy.

I do like the idea of Bolomboy but I'm hoping he's not a rotation guy... I'd rather have withey as fourth big and use Bolomboy only in case of emergency.

I honestly doubt he will be in the rotation unless injuries happen. He might not even make the team, it's far from guaranteed.

Like we took Bolomby at 52. It's not like we jumped for joy as he dropped to 42. We saw our options at 42 and said **** this, let's get $$$ and move down, then we got Bolomboy. I doubt the FO/Staff is that much in love with him.

Dudley won't play a lot of wing minutes. That's not his niche.
