What's new

Derrick Favors being on the bench didn't lose us this game, our starting 1-3 did.

This game was lost by Williams, Foye, and Watson in the 3rd Quarter. First of all they allowed Monte to get hot, second they gave the "Second" team a 10 point deficit which we were lucky to fight out of even with Monte hot. Plain and simple, Marvin Williams is a total bust, Foye is streaky, and Watson should just be happy he is in the NBA because there are 10 guys in the d - league with more game.

Kanter and Millsap both got it done in the 4th, doing a competent job preventing guard penetration, and scoring both at decent rates in the 4th quarter/OT.

Jennings and Monte (and then JJ) got hot, and they kept hitting big shots whenever they needed them. Millsap on the other hand was air balling threes and missing FTs. Tip off your hat to them. At the same time, we NEED Mo back in the worst of ways. Earl and Foye simply killed us tonight. Would have been nice to have Mo in transition tonight.

This.

You cannot win when your 1-3 literally give you nothing. When 60 percent of your starting lineup gives you a gigantic donut.

So are you saying favors was not getting it done on both ends of the court?

No, I'm saying there was no reason to put Favors in when Kanter and Millsap were clearly in-sync with the rest of the squad, and they were excelling in all facets. Why tinker with something that was clearly working?

What would Favors have helped with?

There were numerous times where Ellis broke down the offense with a simple drive and dish and or layup that could have been disrupted by Favors. He is your best defensive presence. How can you not play your best defensive player down the stretch is I believe the issue. Forget the 20/20. If your trying to win games to make the playoffs than you must play him.

THIS.

In the end, the result is still the same. Corbin is borderline retarded, and honestly I hesitate to use that word mainly because I think anyone with actual mental illness would find Ty being compared to them to be offensive.

Corbin piloted the game into a situation where those FTs were necessary. Yes they should have been made, but no the game should never have even been close to that point

He sure did. He found a solid rotation, and correctly stuck with them till the end of OT. It isn't his fault that he is given a point guard rotation of Tinsley, Watson, and a 2nd year shooting guard in Burks.

This simply did not happen in crunch-time. Majority of their shots were perimeter ones towards the end of the 4th, and OT. Jazz clearly played solid D, otherwise they would have not overcome the 13 point defect.

Next please.

But favors had outplayed kanter and millsap.

If a guy is having a career night and is possibly your best player, then you keep playing him...... every time.

So in other games when the bench brings us back in the 4th quarter (after the starters have a horrible 3rd) why does ty tinker with it and bring the starters back in?

Please expound.

Favors's replacements in Millsap (and especially Kanter) were getting it done on both ends of the court. Completely stand by Tys decision to stick with them in crunch-time.

If we had put in Favors and he committed a couple of travels/offensive fouls (keep in mind he scored 23 points on ~20FG attempts) it would have killed momentum.

Again, our frontcourt didn't lose us this game. I think freaking out at Corbin for sticking for something that was working excellently is rather pathetic.

My $0.02

You ARE missing the point. The guy is our best defensive player and was having a career game. You go with the hot hand. You don't leave him on the bench. You go back to him and if he doesn't deliver then bring back the other guy. In any case, there were times when he could've subbed Favors in for defense. Corbin doesn't have a feel for making substitutions. And of course, we know his penchant for playing vets, to the detriment of the future of the team.

It seems that ty has no problem tinkering with a lineup if it involves bringing jeffy back into the game.... but if it involves bringing a young player who is having the best game of his life back into the game..... better not tinker with it

Nope. If you have a unit that is firing on all cylinders, and got you back into the game, you keep playing them EVERY SINGLE TIME. Who gives a **** what happened in the first 3 quarters. We would have not come close to winning this game if it wasn't for Favors. Spectacular. Okay, but if Kanter is busting his *** on both ends, and Millsap is bailing us out of bad offensive executions by drawing fouls, then you don't tinker with things. This is honestly really simple. Cant believe some of you people.

We DID go with the hot hand. And guess what? We took a 13 point deficit and took the game to overtime on the road, while playing VERY formidable defense.

Next puhlleez.

So i ask you again.... what about all the games when our bench was firing on all cylinders and corbin brought millsap and jeffy back in?..... You just said that you keep playing them everytime. I guess corbin disagrees with you

And this is where I would agree with you. If Favors and Kanter are on the floor, and theyre beasting, Sap and Al should keep their asses parked on the bench. You have every reason to freak out at him then, but not tonight.

You are as thick as a tub of molasses. Millsap was not playing all that well. And we needed someone to protect the rim so the perimeter players could get up on their 3-point shooters. With Favors in, the perimeter guys don't have to cheat like they did and allow Redick to have wide open 3's.

Would Favors have prevented JJ and Jennings from hitting contested threes with the shot clock running down? Because those were the two back-breakers right there.

He was saying that our perimeter defenders would not have to sag into the paint to help if favors was in... so they could have stayed on the outside guys better.

Burks had every reason not to sag in on Jennings on the Bucks' last possession in regulation. They needed a three to tie, yet he still gave them airspace. Millsap and Kanter had done a great job thus far, and at worst they would have given up 2 points. Not 3.
