DL's Approach

So you think we should go on a perpetual rebuild until we land multiple superstars, who decide to resign with Utah as FAs, hopefully before the sun expands and swallows the Earth?

The correct way of doing things for a market like Utah is to follow SAS lead (as we have been). Build patiently around the good players you have, and field a competitive team year after year, and you'll get lucky every now and then.

IMO we're in an advantageous position to avoid a perpetual rebuild. We have an uphill climb to reaching contender status regardless of the direction we choose, I just have significant doubts regarding the long-term potential of our current core (outside of Gobert + Mitchell-who I obviously have doubts about as well). I love Gobert, he could be our Duncan. But who is going to be his Parker, Manu, Kawhi, etc?

You have just answered the question yourself. Where were Parker (late 20's), Manu (second round), and Kawhi (# 15) drafted? Duncan was already in his late 20's when the Spurs drafted those guys and none of them were lottery picks. The Jazz need to keep doing what they are doing. A soft reset by going young and seeing what we have is fine but what your saying by trading Gobert is not what the Jazz should do. It's going to take some luck and time but I can see them doing exactly what the Spurs did and drafting well to find there guys no matter where there pick falls

We have a legit star on Gobert. #1 defender in the league and can carry a bad team pretty far.

On to of that we have 3 players that are borderline all Stars if healthy and maybe one can take step into all star level. Favor's, Hood and Rubio are all good starters and borderline all Stars when healthy. All of them are 26 or younger. They are just hitting the start of their prime this season.

We have one of the best glue guys and one of the better shooters in the league. Is Ingles the best 3 and D guy right now? Probably not but pretty damn close.

We have a great veteran leader, great shooter great iso player in JJ

That core will win you some games.

On top of that we have some very exciting young players Exum and Mitchell. Some might not believe in them but they are 21 and 20 and both have the tools to be very good if they can put it together.

We have a great front office that built where we are at and find value late in the draft reliably.

We have a great coach and a staff that is known to develop players with international connections.

We have the makings of being what the Spurs have been.

Good point, I just think it's risky to assume that we will have similar success with mid-late draft picks. I also think the current landscape of the league has increased the difficulty to contend in comparison to when SAS were in the process of assembling their core. I do agree however that Gobert is such an elite talent that, combined with significant luck/internal development, we still have a shot at winning a title. I just see it as an outside one with little to no margin for error. Which is typically a poor approach for a small-market team to take as lack of FA destination appeal hinders our ability/options to accumulate talent & places significantly more pressure to consistently draft successfully, likely outside of the lottery, which is something that you should never rely on.

If Jazz trade Gobert and tank we can welcome Las Vegas Jazz into the league in a couple years.

I think some fans here think championship or bust. That doesn't work for small markets. Only a handful of teams win championships these days. Teams like the Jazz just need to build good teams that are top 5 seed in the playoffs and hope to get lucky and win it all. Jazz will try and stay competitive as long as they can with Gobert on the team.

Frankly no team is beating GS without some luck right now.
