Above all, if KD is healed, which we still do not know for sure whether if he is going to become the next Derrick Rose of injuries or not (I sure hope not), then the opposition to the Thunder better score a lot of points because they sure will not have much problem dropping more than the league average every game if the opposition are not exhausting defenders. If they can hide or fix the Kanter's pick and roll problems on D, then fear them even more.
It's somewhat a trick fate plays on people how Kanter landed up on his 4 feet like a cat. He was not a good fit in Utah because the basketball played in Utah is not the same in OKC. The approach is much more academic. OKC with the former coach was a team of a bunch of players who hustle like crazy to crush the other team on O and just wait for the position on D to finish so that they can run back on O. And it was rather untidy. Too freely. No certain system or set piece which allowed Russ to shoot 50 shot a game if he wants. Perfect situtation for Enes Kanter. Because he is not used to the academic (by academic, I mean more strategical, requiring more wits and courtvision to play and consider the game as a team sports) style of basketball Utah plays, With Bill Donovan taking charge, I think OKC will become a more systematical team compared to the previous seasons. I think this will force Kanter to learn D better. Since he has his deal in his hands right now, he kinda will have to learn to play D or he is benched like getting insulted at the end of the games on defensive positions.
Kanter is a really really good offensive big. If he can somewhat learn to get better at his blackholes, he will be a multiple times allstar. He was not a bad pick. He was not held too badly after the 1st two years. He was just not the right guy for the job in Utah's spot. He needs the ball in his hands to make plays. The other significant thing he does is he clears boards, makes putbacks. Big difference maker in those things. Also he has a really soft wrist for his position and size to score from outside. Saying that he was worthless and getting anything for him was enough is being homer. He was worth more, but it was not Utah's fault that they did not get more for him. Enes is an uneducated spoiled character with just too much self confidence to fight everyone to feed his ego. Not the team player you want in Utah. He does not know what to talk and what not to while speaking to the media. He has a narrow circle of mentors around him and this makes him manipulatable. So he talked about his desire for trade. If your asset wants out you cannot shop him for higher prices like he was like the centerpiece of your franchise. Even though Snyder and Lindsey tried to bargain like that to clear the **** Kanter stirred up after the trade call, said he was their valuable player bla bla, it was not enough.
The part that got worst was his speech before his 1st game in ESA as the visitor. That was pure ****ed up. But he landed on his 4 feet in OKC both monetarily and as a player. He will be very efficient whether if he can learn to defend P&R's or not because the pace of the team offers more coverage for his lame D performances. I'm happy that a Turkish player got the max offer, it's a good thing for Turkish basketball which is still producing a lot of great young talents, most a lot better than Kanter, it says good things about the future. I just wish it would be a deal that layed no more questions on the table that if he was worth the max or not. I think 75% of the league thinks it's overpaying. I hope he can play up to it in his 3+1 years. I also am looking forward to the ESA visits of him. No way the booing is silencing down for this young fella. I lastly hope, he can keep growing up mentally. He has shown the signs of growing up after the trade.
