Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Demin looks pretty good handling and finding guys in position to score. Providence is being aggressive defensively. Demin's just missing his shots, including some pretty open looks.

Edit: Demin holding up in isolation defense and contesting at the rim, which is nice. He still can't buy a bucket.

Fit is the same as last year. The only player truly worth considering is Lauri, and he can play with anyone. Walker is arguable given his play, but there's not really a center at the top. Ain't no way I'm having any other player on the roster influence my decision.
Lauri may be ablo to play with anyone but the fact that no one is a misfit with Lauri doesnt mean that all fits with him are equal.

Using the top pick on a playmaking ballhandler vs a guy who is more of an offball player... the potential fit difference is pretty substantial. Drafting a guy who can draw maximum benefits from Lauri's gravity and who could also feed him if defenses arent respecting him has the potential to create an elite pair.

Same person who said Edey wouldnt go in the first round
I thought she was reporting what scouts were saying?https://x.com/harper04_5/status/1863690289002545152?s=46

I want Ace Bailey and I want him at shooting guard. If we draft Ace I'm dancing The Bailey Shuffle.
he’s underwhelming to me. I’m not sure I want him.
It definitely matters.
No it doesn’t. He’s going to get drafted here, he can’t play anywhere else. Not much he can do, and he’ll be here at least 7 years. Right now he’s number one on my draft board.

Egor still hasn't had a great game against a good team. I'm just waiting to get fully on board that train.

Luckily he'll have a ton of opportunities against a really good Big12 this year.
Yep. I thought it was weird people were putting him top 5 and I'm a huge BYU fan and a homer.

Having said that, the providence game was one of those games that only happen once a year or so. Extremely off night for the whole team.

That's fair, although it's not the same importance to me as a situation where two players cannot play together. You may be lacking in some areas, but it's ok to find puzzle pieces later IMO. But this is something I would consider fit whereas being an empty stats player is not really something I would consider fit because it has everything to do with the individual and not the team he's going to. An empty stats guy is empty stats wherever he goes.

With that said, how much can you think about drafting a 19 year old because of a28 year old if they can still play together? I love Lauri, but the unfortunate reality is that this quick rebuild because less and less likely the more we tanked. Lauri is good enough to be considered when you're making a selection, but given the circumstances and his versatility I'm still going into the draft with a complete blank slate.

One way to think about drafting for fit is, "when are you willing to draft someone that you think is worse?". If you have two guys tiered up the same and can't decided who is better in a vacuum, by all means start looking at fit as a tiebreaker. But for our first pick in this upcoming draft, there's basically no wiggle room or situation where I wouldn't take the guy I think is best because of the way he fits with anyone in Utah. Looking at the draft board though, I don't think there would be any issue across the top prospects. Consequences of having almost no established pieces on the team.

Well the FO has said they wanna build around Lauri. If that is true then most of your logic goes down the toilet and they only really have 2 options:

Either they draft with the fit as a high priority or they make some trade(s) to either move up/down or to acquire a guy.

But I guess your argument is that their intentions are fake and it may be so.

GMs are like politicians. They always lying. The only times they tell the truth when its convenient to fit my personal narrative on how I see things. Just an FYI
