somebody mentioned this in the howard trade thread, but since it's a separate topic, i felt like bringing this up...
houston planned their whole summer around how to get a shot at dwight, and now it sounds as though they have officially missed out. their roster is kind of a mess because of the way they were prepping for a potential dwight deal, and i wonder if they have a contingency plan.
their head coach has spoken very highly of al jefferson on several occasions, and al plays the right position to take the place of howard in their plans -- but at a significantly lower cost. their only veteran big man on the roster is omer asik. they also have motiejunas, patterson and white, but they obviously were planning on getting another starting big, and al might fit that bill, especially given mchale's man-crush on him from their days together in minny.
based on what they were ready to give up for dwight, what do you think they'd give for al? less, obviously, but by how much? and given our depth at everywhere but PG, i'm not even 100% sure they have what we want... but are there any scenarios that would be realistic? as i've said a time or two, my ideal haul for al would be another big man (somebody to come off the bench with kanter) and a playmaking PG so we have someone with a slightly different skill-set than mo. not sure i see that answer on their roster, but i would definitely pick up the phone if they called.
