What's new

in a espn chat someone brought up the following

Sloan needs to start Ronnie Price and end this fiasco of starting Hayward. It's rough to watch someone struggle as much as he does. This isn't a tough call to make, but HE IS A BUST!

Right, one quarter into the season of his first year at the age of 20 and you know this for sure. Why are you not a GM or something?

Once he learns the offense I think he will be solid. You can see Dwill has to point to him where to go constantly.

did anyone else notice the prolonged discussion/debate/argument that deron and gordon had above the key while another jazzman was shooting FTs, i think in the 2nd half? for a bit, it really seemed like they were going at it.

Still stand by him being more athletic and he can shoot. He was quite good his Freshman year. Does it mean anything to you that KOC came right out of the gate and said it will be two years before he is really NBA ready? Clearly the pick was not made for him to help us win a championship this year. By the way I was an Ed Davis man. So not exactly a big Hayward homer.

I think KOC said that because he didn't want to draft Hayward. KOC has said ad nauseam that his primary goal is to make the team longer and more athletic. Evans was obviously his hard work and his pick. I believe ownership was mesmerized and bedazzled by a dork on a hot-streak in the NCAA tournament and they drove the decision to get Hayward. Most were shocked Hayward went that high, but no one was shocked that the Jazz picked him. KOC saying "give him two years" was giving the organization some room on people reacting to the reality of the situation and hopefully keeping some value alive longer than it should in case he has to pull the rip chord.

Even though Hayward has been nightmarishly bad, I won't say he's a bust. He will be if he can't find his shot, his rhythm, and his heart, though.

Let's not be too hasty here with the comparisons. Morrison actually is pretty good at shooting the basketball, and plus there is this...

I still have faith in him. How ignorant to call him a bust so early. He really needs to be sent to the d- league and get into a rhythm. He obviously has lost his confidence.

Has anybody noticed that rookies who are looking like stars generally play for losing teams? Any thoughts about how good they would look on a good team like the Jazz?

My sorta optimistic thoughts on Hayward:

While he looks absolutely brutal and lost out there, I still see good basketball skills in him. I'm not certain he should have been starting now. Maybe he should come off the bench and see what he can do from there. He needs to gain some confidence from somewhere, but (and this may just be wishful thinking) I feel that if he can get that one or two good games in a row then he'll be ok. That being said, I agree with what bill said in another thread. If his shot never comes, he's done for in this league.

They generally play for losing teams because generally they are high lottery picks and they'd be great anywhere.

Let me ask you something, at this stage, can you really see Hayward looking good anywhere? Be honest, both with us and yourself.

It's far too early to write Hayward off - although if it means people will stop whining about him then please feel free to give up on him. He's not quite as nba-ready as I hoped he would be (actually he's not really nba-ready at all) but I still think he's got a place in the league and will improve his game by leaps and bounds over the next 18 months.

I wasn't a big fan of the pick but I am not going to give up on the kid so soon. The kid is freak'n 20 years old. As long as Sloan is saying he is working hard then I will have patience but I can understand the frustration because Hayward has been absolutely horrible. Matthews, Fields and even Evans make strong cases for staying in school.

I think Hayward needs to play some and needs to stay with the Jazz team because his biggest problem is not knowing the offense and thinking too much. Hopefully, the Jazz have an assistant coach talking to him and telling him to keep his head up.
