Is Favors in the long-term plans at this point?

Faves for $10 million would be a no brainer. Faves for $18 million would be suicide.

You make a good point about there not being a lot of cap space and centers being out of "favor". For me, anything north of $13 million cash straps the team from adding better pieces should the chance arise. I have seen enough favors and Gobert and enough Gobert and Joe Johnson to convince me we need spacing... ESPECIALLY with Rubio at the point.

I wouldn’t mind ditching Rubio if it meant Favs could a few more minutes alongside rudy and make it work.

Unless Dallas, Phoenix, or Chicago offer him a big deal I just don’t see where his bigger than mid level contract comes from.

The Jazz are a better team without Gobert. This recent stretch of games has proven that. He's a good defender and I like his fire but it's time to accept the truth. People who are saying he's better offensively than Favors are smoking crack. Are you even watching the same players?? The entire offense is leaps and bounds better without Rudy in there stopping the offensive flow by bobbling passes and chucking 3 footers off the backboard with all the grace of a rhinoceros.

Hopefully Quin has the balls to start Favors even when Rudy comes back. But he probably won't, and this fun to watch, high scoring team we've seen recently will be no more than a distant memory. It will be back to mediocrity and hoping we can beat teams 82-79 every night.

Tabasco sauce isn't usually this hot...

Favors is a Center. Favors wants to play Center. The Jazz offense needs a stretch 4. His hometown team needs a Center.

My guess is he's playing for The Hawks this time next year.

Wait, hasn't he always hated playing centre?
Yes, Favors has always insisted he's a PF. And he lost some weight so that he could not only be a better PF, but alleviate some of the strain on his knees. In today's game, I think he's a better fit at the 5, but it's my understanding he doesn't want to be a 5.

1. It is not Gobert's fault everyone around him laid bricks.
2. Favors wasn't anything special until Gobert went down. We've seen Gobert with spacing, and surprise, it's pretty ****ing great. We haven't really seen that this season.

Yeah you're probably right, the Jazz only magically hit their shots when Rudy Scissor Hands is out. Has nothing to do with ball movement and spacing that's not there when Rudy is in the game.

And Favors plays out of position when Gobert's on the floor. At center he's a stud. Put Gobert at power forward and see how well he does.

You obviously don't agree with me but the results speak for themselves.

Don't get fooled, guys. Favors is playing great and the team struggled when Gobert was healthy... but the recent success is to a huge degree spurred by hot shooting stretch(we are shooting about 45% from 3 the last 5-6 games). This is not sustainable. We also have been playing in a relatively easy stretch of the schedule. This type of shooting will not continue and when it stops we will need Gobert's defense.

Yes, this isn't rocket science. Gobert and Favors simply do not compliment each other. The spacing is poor. On top of that, Favors has seemed to assert himself more in Gobert's absence. Good for him but why?

I have always thought Favors had top 5 potential at C. He creates mismatches at C yet is a liability at PF. On the right team, he could be very, very valuable. Unfortunately for us, we found a top 3 C before Favors realized he was a great C.

The only way I keep Favors long term is because the FO feels Gobert will miss 20 games a year. If not, we are tying up too much money for a guy who will not work next to Gobert especially if we were to make the playoffs when mismatches are more exposed.

BECAUSE THEY PLAYED TOGETHER.

because Rubio and Gobert played together and Favors wasn't helping things on the back end...and because we were missing shots(cold stretch), while we are making up for it now(hot shooting stretch). It doesn't matter whether Favors and Gobert play together or one of them plays or neither of them plays - the Jazz will not shoot 45% from 3 over prolonged stretch. Even GSW doesn't shoot this well, even the Rockets don't shoot this well. Also we won't be playing this LAC team and MKE and ORL and CHI all season long.

My point is - what we are doing right now is not sustainable and we should expect some regression soon, just like what our opponents were doing in the beginning of the season was not sustainable(shooting 40% from 3 against us) and there was a regression coming.

It isn't just hot shooting though. The off ball movement and speed of decision making with passes/reads has been incredible. Yes, you are right that its coming against bad defenses, but even so, its clear stuff has clicked. Its not like they are just getting lucky shooting forced or contested 3's and making them.

And while I dont think Rubio/Favors/Gobert is good, I think Ricky has figured some stuff out in the offense that will help him when Gobert returns.

Jazz just got to figure out what that lineup can do in their short stints together then hits teams with the death lineups for the other 38 minutes.

This 100%. If Derrick Favors isn’t going to get PAID on the open market, I’d rather see the Jazz keep him and then tag team him and Rudy to always have a dominant big man on the court. Plus, it’ll take away some of the wear and tear of a long, grinding season having both guys + Udoh.

Oh, Favors is not staying. That is near 100% guarantee.

Probably right. And I expect him to be traded. I’d just love to see what this team looks like through this rough December stretch if Rudy gets healthy and the only time Gobert and Favors are out there together, Rubio is on the bench and Mitchell, Hood/Burks, and Jingles share the court with them. Stagger them at the 5 and give both Rudy and Derrick a plethora of shooters around them for 40 minutes or so.

So Jerebko has a 132 ORTG... I'm fairly sure he is one of the main reasons the offense has taken off... Favs maybe a better offensive center than Rudy, but not by a lot and I honestly think Rudy is a little better.

So lets stop this Rudy bogs down the offense stuff.

People quickly forget that Hill/Ingles/Hayward/Favors/Gobert was a frequent 5-man lineup for us last year and was REALLY REALLY good. It's not Favors, it's NEW PIECES STILL ADJUSTING TO ONE ANOTHER.
