Hey Favs... will you stay here... where you may not always finish games... aren’t used in a way that maximizes what you can bring and are viewed as more of a super sub/backup plan? Also, we’d like to get you on a team favorable deal if possible.
I disagree, I think good players make themselves fit and over time work things out.
Favors was not our draft pick we traded for him. Regardless we would trade him for a pick and hope he turns out as good as Favors in 5-6 years that does not fit our timeline. Yes picks can turn out but they can also just as likely or more likely turn into Burke, Lyles or Kanter.
Besides Favors not being drafted by us those 3 other players listed were not lottery picks. Our team seems better at drafting end or mid draft anyways. We have the talent to compete now. We have some star power and potential star power. No reason to dump that talent and start over.
Mitchell is the very very very rare rookie that helps win early in his career. Most players take years to develop such as Hayward, Favors and so on.
We can create room if we dump a bunch of our players but I dont see anyone that we can reasonably sign that will be better than the talent we would dump. It would take a lot more than just dumping Ricky to create room. We would have to not re-sign Favors and let players like Hood, Exum, Sefolosha, Jerebko and Udoh go to get reasonably under the cap enough to sign a free agent out right.
Totally agree to that extent. But if he's managed correctly, I think he could be fine placeholder cap and change-of-pace ballhandler. He really needs to come off the bench right now, regardless. The ball is Mitchell's.I agree... there are very few gettable FAs that I like. I do think Ricky is still a difficult fit and his time needs to be marginalized. Neto has looked fantastic too (he looks a lot faster this year) and his shot is consistent. He's not the defender Ricky is at all, but he isn't miserable on that end.
Opening up space isn't a priority then, but I might try and see if we could move Ricky for a better fitting part and maybe a pick (or pick swap) or something of that ilk... just so we don't have someone we have to manage and keep happy even though the team might be better served playing other guys.
You are just wrong about that. Flat out wrong.I disagree, I think good players make themselves fit and over time work things out.
Yep, I think Ricky is the odd one out not Favors. Or at least shouldn't play with those guys. I think Favor's and Gobert can play together just fine and/or play slightly off set depending on matchups like last night where I think we did okay in that game.Ignore the cap space aspect... btw moving Ricky and not re-signing Favs allows us to get to max cap space easily by managing Exum's cap hold. I honestly don't think there is anyone worth creating space for... so just ignore that.
I do think we should look to acquire more picks... I was happy you mentioned our success on mid level picks... we don't need to acquire lotto picks, but give ourselves more chances to acquire great talent.
Fit 100% matters... Favs and Gobert don't work long term... The run we are on should show that we can use less talented players that space the floor and get a huge improvement.
Managing the Favs, Gobert, Ricky balance is going to be tough... I doubt we bring all three back next year. Time will tell, but I'd be willing to bet Favs isn't willing to come back next year unless he is starting and playing starter minutes. Those three overlapped like 6 total minutes last night and it was clear Quin wanted it out ASAP.
I just don't think we're likely to get more value for Favors than his very own expiring contract + the talent he adds to our roster for this year. I'm not interested in a couple of weak 2nd-round picks -- I'd rather he help push us back into the playoffs as a 4th-6th seed + help us pull a first-round upset.
But if a first-round pick came calling without any salary burden beyond this season.... I'd pull the trigger.
Hayward did not help us win his rookie year. Maybe in a couple games but across the season he hurt us more than he helped. 90% or more of rookies are a liability on the court across the season.Haywad helped us win his rookie year. He was already good on both ends and had 34 and 32 pt. games. Favors and Hood are just as risky as high picks, with their propensity for injury, but with picks you free up money also.
Tell me some examples of player who are really good that have not fit together? What makes those players not fit together? You are just wrong about that. Flat out wrong.

We still need picks but they are not a reason to dump good players that are helping us win for. Now if the front office knows something about Favors not coming back, sure trade him at the deadline. Although I would rather us trade him for a player not future picks.
I just doubt the Jazz are looking to pull the plug on Rubio. I think they really want to get full off-season with him.
