It's Time For a True Direction

3-Huh?
4-That doesn't mean they actually own their own 1st. Do they for sure?

3- Just trust me... I know this ish... They own all of their picks going forward so they can trade any pick they want regardless of what they did last year.
4- they own their own pick but traded their 2019... they can trade 2018... they just have to exercise a pick... doesn't have to be their own.

And its not that I want to build a super contender... that would be nice, but a perennial playoff second round team with a chance for more would be better than where we are headed.

We need more bites at the apple. No more half rebuilds.

Yeah, that would really suck.

Yeah, that would really suck.

I said that would be nice... I would like that but I meant that as I don't want to tank years upon years to get the amount of prospects the sixers got. I am not even sure this attempt to retool would net a perrenial second round playoff type team... that was the idea of that comment.

We'd tank and probably be the first team ****ed by the new draft odds. We'd end up with 4th worst record and still take home pick #12.

The new direction is simple - build around Mitchell and Gobert. We need one great piece to go with those two. Maybe Hood too if we can afford it.

I guess it is simple in theory but getting that one great piece can be really hard... we need a few opportunities.

I also am for keeping Exum around... I just think he will end up working out if he can ever get on the damn court.

All I know is the Jazz better acquire some pieces soon. The clock is ticking with Gobert, and development takes time.

I like HH's suggestions on the previous page. But the central thing, I think, is losing a lot of games this year and getting Gobert healthy.

1- Yeah it'd be like top 10 or something
3- They can trade their first that rule only looks forward not backward
4- they can trade their pick because they have the BKN pick and it is unprotected...

The rule applies to consecutive years. So if you traded your pick last season, you can't trade it in 2018. That is why so teams sometimes make a pick and then trade draft rights to a player; it circumvents the rule. However, you are correct. They now have the BKN pick so they can trade their own.

Milwaukee needs a center since they traded away Monroe and Thon Maker can't rebound or do anything for ****. Pump up Favors's value and trade him and Exum or Hood for Jabari/Teletovic/Dellavedova. Milwaukee wouldn't be able to resist Favors/Exum's W I N G S P A N. Teletovic is owed 10.5mil this year and next. Delly is owed 9.6mil until 2019-2020.

You are wrong... the rule only looks forward. Look it up if you like.

I'm tired of people complaining. Lets look for a solution. I know part of the forum's process for some is to find ways to mock others and wallow in our demise. But I want us to progress.

What do you mean by "only works forward"? The rule is you cannot be without first round picks in consecutive years. If you didn't have a pick in 2017, you can't trade away your own pick in 2018 (unless you trade for another 1st round pick, but it must be unconditional).

Jebus people... that rule only applies to future picks... it is about trading future picks in consecutive years... what teams did in prior years does not matter.

If you don't know the rules don't try to correct those that do.

So, as usual, I'm going to create a plan. Either like or give advice on how to make it better:

Trade Rubio and Burks to Nuggets for Chandler, Arthur, Barton and 2 2nd rounders (Denver has 2). http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7eb976h

Then Trade Favors, JoeJ, and 2 2018 2nd rounders (ours and one from Denver) for Deng and Brandon Ingram http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7s7pugm

Result:
PG Mitchell
SG Hood
SF Ingram
C Gobert
We would have Deng, Ingles, Chandler, Thabo and Jerekbo to platoon for PF and bench.

In 2018, we bring back Exum or Hood depending on cost/fit. We also show patience since Mitchell and Ingram shouldn't cost us big until Deng and Ingles are cycling off the books. Will LA do that trade? You never know until you try. Denver should jump at their offer.

I think the first trade is really lopsided for us... why does Denver do that? (They wouldn't)

I think Ingram and Deng for expirings is fair, but they won't do that trade until they know that two all stars are coming and that no one will take anything less.

So would we do Deng for expirings and 1sts in 2020 and 2022... could get nance and Hart too but we wouldn't have the roster spots needed to accommodate. Maybe route those to a third team for other considerations.

I really don't understand what you are trying to say. If you traded away your 1st round pick in 2017, you cannot trade your 2018 pick away. Obviously, it's hard to prevent anyone from trading away their 2016 pick now... What happened in the most recent draft definitely applies. What happened in drafts prior to that is obviously not a concern any more.

I think Denver does it for these reasons:

#1 - they have the worst PG situation in the league. Adding Rubio to a more balanced team than we have actually makes Denver a playoff team.

#2 - their window is now. They spent a ton in Millsap and they have been irrelevant for a while. Chandler, Arthur and Barton are role players at best. Rubio, though flawed, is a proven starter.

#3 - Burks. I dont think this is very strong in the trade, but the Nuggets are a business. If they can sell the idea that Burks is "coming home", maybe that sells to some people. And they are a team that could use more wings.

As for LA, it just all depends on how they see Ingram and Deng. The Deng situation is a distraction as is the summer 2018 chatter. Not to mention the Lonzo circus. Eliminating one distraction while actually making the team better for Lonzo right now is a smart move. They make the playoffs more easily with Favors and JoeJ than Ingram and Deng. That helps in the 2018 summer pitch too.
