wtf has to happen for the jazz to not play okc and eithger the spurs or NO?

Oy - here's the relevance of the upcoming Minnesota v. Denver game

Basically, if we beat GS tomorrow, the game doesn't affect us. But if we lose --

If we lose out and Denver beats Minneosta, we'll be the 6 no matter what. But if we lose out, we're either 6 or 7 depending on the winner of Spurs Pelicans. If Pelicans win, we're 6, but if Spurs win we're 7.

The perfect storm that has us playing Warriors is us losing to GS and Portland, Minnesota beating Denver, SA beating NO.

Could happen. Otherwise, we're either playing Portland or OKC. Don't think there's a scenario where we play Sa or NO unless OKC loses to Memphis somehow.

Pretty much. Beat Portland and we're 3rd. If we beat GSW and lose to POR, and OKC beats Memphis, the best we can do is 5th. It'd be OKC 4, UTA 5, then the winner of SAS and NOP 6th.

In case you don't want to follow the stream of consciousness above --here are the possible playoff scenarios

(Assuming that OKC beats Memphis for all of the scenarios below)

If we win out, we play OKC as the 3 vs. the 6
If we go 1-1 (doesn't matter which one), we play OKC as the 5 vs. the 4
If we go 0-2 we play the Blazers as the 6 vs the 3 IF (i) Denver beats Minnesota or (ii) Minnesota beats Denver AND Pelicans beat Spurs
Alternatively, if we go 0-2 we play the Warriors as the 7 vs the 2 if (i) Minnesota beats Denver and (ii) Spurs beat the Pelicans.

Does that make sense?

Here's what I come up with (assumption is a NO win tonight):

If we win out and OKC wins against MEM, we play them as 3/6.
If we drop one, we play OKC as the five seed.

What's killer there is the NO/SAS matchup, in that scenario, means that the winner is the 4 seed, the loser the 8 seed. Crazy wicked.

Just root for DEN and we're basically assured of the six seed. Incredibly, if OKC were to lose for MEM with the above scenario, we'd actually drop to 7.

If we drop even a game, OKC is basically assured of #4.

I think we could lose to Golden State, beat Portland and still end up with the 3rd seed. There'd be 4 teams tied at 48 wins, and the Jazz would have the best conference record. Jazz would be 3rd, Blazers 4th and Thunder either 5th or 6th.

That would be good for us. If the Pels beat the Spurs, we'd get the Pels in our 3/6 matchup

There's even a scenario where we get the three seed even with a loss.

We lose to GS.
MIN beats DEN.
NO beats SA.
MEM beats OKC.
We beat POR.

Yes, but again we could lose to the Warriors, beat Portland and pull 4 teams into a tie at 48 wins. We'd get the 3rd seed and play either the Thunder or Pels depending on whether the Pels beat the Spurs.

Idk. memphis clinched (? not even sure if this is right word to use here) the 2nd worst record. Maybe gasol will play 30+ min and go ******* to beat thunder

I think back to those losses at home to ATL and BOS and how nice it would have been to steal at least one of them.

Good news is that those games might not end up mattering though right? Even winning those games we would have no shot at the 2 seed and whether we won them or lost them we have a shot at the 3 seed right? Or do we no longer have a chance at 3? I have no idea anymore.

So unless OKC somehow loses to Memphis, we are playing them, the Blazers, or the Warriors no matter what? ****.
