Jazz going after OJ Mayo

The Jazz will still lose games as a young team and end up with a pick in the 8 - 10 range in next year's draft.

The Jazz will have to hit the tank button to get into the top 6.

There will be a stellar player available at 10.. team changer.

Id much rather the jazz go after Tyreke Evans. Sac is not likely to match now that they have maclemore.. Seriously... hes only 23 and would fit in with the core better than mayo. Maybe we can get him back to his rookie form. Its worth a gamble i think.

The oj mayo hate here is a travesty. We need offense on this team, obviously. It's what everybody was saying last year, and that being the reason why we needed Al Jefferson to play. We need at least one shot creator, and Mayo fits that bill.

Should be a very fun team to watch if we can obtain OJ.

And if they absorb salary and get a later lottery pick, say at #14, I think the #10 and #14 might be enough to move up to #6...if the theory holds true that the draft is 5 deep at the top. Similar to 2010, when Wall, Turner, Favors, Johnson and Cousins were seen as clearly a tier ahead of everyone else. In other words. Jazz may not be able to trade into the top #5 - those picks will be too expensive. But they might be able to get the next best player after that.

I don't like this at all. While I think Mayo has matured some as a player in Dallas, that highlight vid didn't do much more than convince me he's not somone I want on this team. I know he was feeling it that night but taking pull up 3's with 18 secs on the shot clock and bringing the ball up the court then dribbling for 12 secs without a single pass is not how I think this team will win going forward.

I think on a diff Jazz team he'd be great at this point in his career, but not as presently constituted. Play what we have and add a few vet backups to fill spots. Play out the season and see what we have. Worst case the kids do ok and we don't get a great pick. Well, we still have money to spend going forward. Mayo would be a stop gap that would put as right back in the middle again.

Nothing against him, just don't think it fits a real philosophy.

Smart contribution. I sign that 100%. Mayo is not that bad any longer as in Memphis. He finally recognized that his jumper is his biggest asset. Still he doesn't really understand team concepts, defense and that he really has sloppy ballhandling abilites.
He played selfish to fill the statsheet in Dallas with a shot selection, you wanna burn the tape so no college kid ever sees that **** and models his game after.
I guess his camp will start demanding 45 for 4, and go down to 40 for 4 and someone will take the trap(usually I'd say the Hawks but Danny Ferry made smart moves last season unloading the **** off their roster - instead maybe Charlotte, Cleveland or Milwaukee in act of desperation)
From a different angle though Mayo to Utah would ensure that Tyrone Corbin is no longer the person with lowest BBIQ in ESA. -> SIGN MAYO

Don't think I'd give him more than 6 million a year. The league average in PER is 15. The number of times Mayo has surpassed that in his career? 0
Calling him a rich man's Foye is too generous. Perhaps a Foye that got lucky and found a couple hundred dollar bills on the street.

The Jazz are in a good position to get him if they want him. Minnesota has a lot of salary on the books and needs to re-sign Pekovic and probably Budinger. Most teams just have their mid-level exception.

Jack, Burke, Tinsley
Mayo, Burks
Hayward, Carroll, Evans
West, Kanter, Williams
Favors, Kanter, Gobert

this would be sexy I think

I think OJ is dramatically better than Foye. He's better in the open court, better at penetrating and finishing at the rim, a better passer, etc.

I'm pretty sure the Jazz aren't going to pick up David West. And I'm not a fan of Jarret Jack for this team. We're still rebuilding here.

I think the selfish knock certainly applied in Memphis. But his Assist % last year was 20 - that's pretty solid for a starting SG. While I'm not in love with Mayo I have warmed up to him a little. He had no clue how to play the game when he came in the league - all he knew how to do was play hero ball; but it's obvious he's worked on his game a lot since then

Did u watch a lot of Dallas last season? I watched whenever I could and all the game recaps. And it's a bad sign imo when you look selfish and bad on your highlights.
