Lol. that picture of Wes rubbing up against Roy is pretty fitting. Nice find.
"They said that I was a priority, but they never made me an offer,'' said Matthews, who said the Jazz used the strategy of having him bring back an offer sheet. "They never offered me anything. I'm sure that if they would have made an offer, it would have been a fair offer and I might have taken it.''
At the very least, if Utah had made an offer the Blazers may not have gone as high and the Jazz could have matched at that point. Perhaps.

I'm sorry to see Wes go and while I'm glad he got paid I don't know how fulfilling this move is going to be to his basketball career.
My guess is him and his contract get bounced around the league for the next 4 years as trade filler.
Ya know, this is another reason we should have made him an offer. I think it's clear that Portland was bluffing. If we made a reasonable offer in 4 mill / yr range to begin with, then Portland may not have made any offer and just let it go because they might've figured the Jazz had set their ceiling and they didn't really want or need Matthews, they just wanted to screw the Jazz. In not making an offer, everyone gets screwed: Matthews, the Jazz, and Portland. Making an offer was the one option to prevent this.
And with Shandon Anderson, it was a different scenario. He actually wanted to leave the Jazz unlike Matthews.
I don't blame the Jazz for not matching this crazy offer, but I'm going to miss Wesley, who has been my favorite player this year. I hope this all works out for him and he has a long and productive NBA career. And I hope we re-sign him someday.
