Jazz select Grayson Allen at 21

Listening to DL talk and I get the allen pick more now... I think he could have had Allen rated lower than Okobo or even dead even and he would have taken Allen everytime if it was close. They have the Quin and Lang connection and have all the non-basketball info from really reliable resources, so its so much easier to make that call. I get it...

I wish we had gone and gotten KBD and I would be officially geeked about the draft, but a little sad Okobo was passed.

I said it while the draft was still going that if we somehow moved up a little to grab KBD it would be icing on the cake.

Missing KBD - especially with how far he fell - sucks and makes no sense to me. Picks were changing hands all over the damn place.

And yeah, if you assess that KBD and Allen are equally "safe" players in a general sense, filling a glaring need is an easy, easy tie-breaker.

Oh well.

If the Jazz believe in Rubio and Exum at the 1, they may not have seen Okobo as being able to crack the rotation. The fact that Allen can play two positions and both sides of the ball might have given him the edge there. The pick is starting to make more sense to me.

If the Jazz are serious about doing anything in free agency, they can't realistically keep both (maybe even either). Exum isn't a PG, neither are threats to make anything but catch-and-shoot or uncontested 3s (at best).

I’m still really pissed we traded Vince Edwards.

6’8” with a 7’0” wingspan and chiseled frame and ability to defend 2-4. 39.2% from three over four years...and that’s with just 32.6% as a frosh. 9.4 rebounds per 40 last year. 4.1 assists (and just 1.7 turnovers) per 40 over his four years there. 82% from the line. Tough as ****. Feel like he could be a better Crowder given what I see as likely better shooting. Why not have the cheap contract and renounce JJ or Sef or both.

Pretty sure KBD didn't shoot 66/100 on NBA 3s test like Allen, probably 25/100.

It's too bad that Robert Williams slid and that no one reached for Aaron Holliday. That took an extra player or two on our list off the board. I'd still be very curious to know how the Jazz and Mitchell feel about Josh Okogie. I get that we weren't close to getting JRob or Brown, but I'd like to have had a shot at Okogie.

I think a PG who can shoot like Okobo can would give the Jazz a higher ceiling. I'm just trying to look at things from the Jazz's perspective. They seem pretty comfortable with the team they have and may not believe they have the space to develop Okobo. Just guessing really. They may see Allen and Mitchell as potentially running a two-guard front down the line.

Pretty sure we don't know what he shot, and more importantly, I'm certain he would be playing a totally different role (one we need more help with [as I don't see any promising stretch 4s on the free agent or trade market that can switch AND protect the rim]).

Clear as mud.

You jumped to a lot of conclusions in that spiel. If you want to know why I think that just ask, dont run your own narrative.

Yes I did jump to some conclusions there. I retract the starting bit, as it is possible to get 30+ mpg from the bench.

Please enlighten me with your narrative, because clearly I am off on how you think Handsy will do this his rookie year.

I did some math to see what it would take to have those numbers and break DM's rookie 3pt makes record.
He will have to shoot 459 threes to make 188 at a 41% clip. If he plays all 82, that would be 5.59 3pt shots per game. Not unheard of, DM shot 7 per game.
If Grayson takes 50% of his shots from 3, he would have to shoot 67% from 2 in order to have a 54% overall percentage.
He would be taking 11.19 shots per game. He would have to take .73 free throws per game.
He would have 6.88 ppg on 3's, 7.51 ppg on 2's, and .62 ppg from free throws, to get to the 15ppg average.

I would love it if he had this type of year. I'm skeptical though.

I post all this crap, to show I didn't jump to conclusions, they are realistic and based on something called math. There was not much in the way of jumping, but more in the way of calculating.

You threw out some numbers, to get there, Grayson will have to play some serious minutes, and shoot quite a bit, and play every game.

Right. Right.

All 3 will eventually be better than Allen. I put them in the order i liked so if i was drafting I would have taken Okobo. Now at least i can be judged harshly if Okobo sucks.
Every team passed on him, are you smarter then every team? Plus, he’s not a need Allen has more position versatility and better, more skilled.

I knew nothing about him, right after we drafted him I read up on him and got excited as hell he seems exactly what we need and we trade him for ****ing money. Just so disappointed he isn’t coming here and wondering how he didn’t go in the first round. These days it seems like they treat the 2end round as if there is no talent to be had that late.

We traded the pick, Houston picked him not us.

This may have been stated, but I remember hearing Jazz had Allen as the third player on their board. Was 1 and 2 made public?

No, but I think the premise is that the Jazz had Allen as #3 on their board if they stay at #21. There's simply no way that Allen was #3 on their Big Board after Luca Doncic and Miles Bridges.

Still think KBD sucks.
Glue-guys usually don't have the prettiest games, but I also mostly don't know what I'm talking about. He didn't jump off the screen from what I've watched, but I am simply looking for a guy that can tick off a collection of boxes that not many do (switch through four positions defensively, hit open 3s, block shots, not get murdered down low, have a decent feel for the game).
