Kirelenko in Trade talks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you defending this craptastic trade rumor from a financial perspective keep this in mind: the purported $18 million savings is a phantom number.

Doing some back of the envelope calculations, taking into account both seasons Diaw will be under contract (he's not opting out, that's a fantasy), and making very realistic assumptions about luxury tax payouts and future luxury tax probabilities I estimate the actual savings to the Miller family at $6.4 million with a total "ceiling" (i.e. the absolute maximum savings) of $9 million.

If you cite any number higher than $9 million, you're buying a company line designed to sell you a bad bill of goods.
Even $6 million to $9 million is in the range of cheese savings that is likely sufficient for GM and his GM to pull the trigger.

That's around what Utah saved for trading a backup PG last year.

I don't see why Melo would wanna sign a deal there. They're dumping Harris and Favors and 2 future 1st rounders...who's gonna be on their team?

PG: scrub
SG: scrub
SF: Crymelo
PF: scrub
C: Brook Lopez

Yes, I'll be very disappointed if this trade goes through. I can't necessarily fault the FO for pulling the trigger if it 100% must be done for financial reasons - none of us really understand all of the financial implications and potential consequences if the team remains this far over the LT threshold.

That being said, in no way are we a better team if this trade happens. I'll take Andrei over Diaw straight up any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. Additionally, we are fans - we are not the Millers. It doesn't mean a damn thing to me if it saves them $18,000,000, I'll never see a dime of that money anyways. I just want to see the Jazz put the best team possible on the floor, and this trade does not accomplish that.

Too little too late, if this deal goes down. The Jazz probably figure that they might not get past the Fakers. So while we are it, why not trim the LT penalty a little bit? If they had pulled a trade like this 3 yrs back maybe it would have changed the franchise.

The unknown details be damned.
We need the idea of excluding Charlotte from the deal to take hold. Let it build to a crescendo in KOC's ears!

AK for Harris! AK for Harris!

Say it with me!

For what it's worth...

I'm a long suffering Jets fan. There is a social media $cmuck in Jets land that typically has pretty good sources. If you follow his Twitter timeline he broke the Revis story about 5 hours before national media or beat reporters. But he has been wrong on other stories. Anyway, he also has sources with the Knicks and Nets. He is saying that Melo is being urged by third parties NOT to sign the extension and to play it out / wait it out with Denver until he can get traded to NY in December or free agency next summer. Again, this guy has been dead on with some things well before traditional media. Maybe something to keep an eye on.

** Carmelo Anthony Update ** As i reported last night, sources indicated Isiah Thomas made calls to Melo to hold off on signing new deal
** Carmelo Anthony Update ** Isiah calling may not be the key factor on Melo slowing the deal down - Seems like other outsiders are telling
** Carmelo Anthony Update ** Carmelo not to sign extension with Nets & just A)Suck it up play with Nuggets B)Wait till New Year & get traded
** Carmelo Anthony Update ** Once again this info does not mean Carmelo would not sign with Nets / Just means outsiders are in his ear not 2

Why do the Jazz seem to acquire players years after I wanted them, when they are either old, crappy, or both?

I spent the late 80s dreaming of Tom Chambers, and sure enough, the Jazz get him when he was 54 and half a foot shorter. Antoine Carr, Danny Manning...and now Diaw. I wanted Diaw 5 years ago. This is like getting to sleep with the prom queen, but 20 years later when she's fat, discoloured from smoking, divorced with 2 kids and working at the local Wal-Mart.

This will be only way Jazz will be able to parley an 18 mil contract for a nine mil. How hard will Jazz try to force this deal?

Isiah Thomas

A gift to every franchise, except the ones he works for.

Diaw and Harris make the same amount of money. So Jazz save the same amount of money this year whether they take Diaw or Harris.

So why would the Jazz take Diaw?

Harris > Diaw.
Harris has greater league wide trade value too.
Jazz save same amount of money this year.
Jazz are better team with Harris than with Diaw.

Why are we still talking about accepting Diaw?

I'll repeat what I said pages ago.

In response to "but the Jazz already have Deron Williams."

Yeah so? You think Diaw's gonna start over Jefferson or Millsap?

"well, Diaw's not supposed to start - he's backup material."

Yeah, and Harris is starter material backing up Deron. Or play him next to Deron.

Harris is SO MUCH BETTER THAN DIAW!!!

SAME $ SAVINGS FOR JAZZ!

Charlotte doesn't want to give up DJ.

If Nets want Melo they have to make concession - no DJ. -- in which case there's no need to include Charlotte at all.
