Fair question. I don't think so. I think it was just trying to "hit" them, and not "wrap" them. Leading with a lot of shoulder, and not trying to wrap them up to tackle or slow them down until help came. We have had problems swarming to the ball. But the swarming starts with the first guy to hit the ball carrier. If the first guy bounces off, then the ball carrier can regain some momentum making it hard to swarm.

I also think it can be in part to poor LB play, not just tackling but being in the right spots which leads them to more miss-tackles than just being poor tacklers, as much as I love the Barton family Cody has been a major disappointment IMO, after the LB core being the main reason the 2nd is Hatfield is just not a strong tackler, which can be said about many CB's but he's even poor for CB's. Like you mentioned you watch other good team defense and they swarm, Utah hasn't had that enough this year.

Crap there was a stat I read this morning that would've been great here but can't think of it right now.....

Anyway IMO this is on the offense for not generating more possessions, it wore out the defense and they collapsed and let the team down at the end, which never should've happened had the offense generated any kind of momentum in that first half.


Oh and it will never happen but when LSU fires Ed Orgeron, it would be awesome if somehow the U could hire him as the DLine coach and whatever other tags/titles you can put on him, as from what little I know of him he's one heck of a recruiter.
 
Utah's entire offensive staff should be fired. Maybe keep Erickson for his recruiting but I'm ****ing sick of watching talent on offense go to complete waste based on a ****ty offensive strategy and down right ****ing predictable play calling. Fire them after the game and make their asses walk home.
 
**** that fire them now. We are the worst team in football at red zone offense. and it's 99.9% on the ****ty play calling. Absolutely pathetic. 0-4 for TD's in the red zone. As soon as Folks was marked short of the end zone you could see we'd be kicking another ****ing FG.

It's pathetic how conservative and predictable Utah's playcalling was thisnyear. Especially in the 2nd half of the season once Utah dealt with teams that could actually score.
 
Game score was closer than it should've been, such a frustrating season. Rooting for the Buffs in the Pac 12 championship.
 
If Washington goes to the CFP, we'll be in the Sun Bowl.
If not... Vegas bowl. Again.

Agreed, what a great season for Colorado. Kudos to them and Mike McIntire (sp?) for turning that program around so completely.

But... I want to go to a different place than the Vegas bowl. So I'll be cheering for Washington in the P12CG.

As far as our Offensive Coordinator goes...

Until we get a good OC, and get Kyle to keep his hands out of the cookie jar, I don't think we can reasonably expect anything more than a 9-3 season. 10-2, 11-1, or even 12-0 will simply not happen while Kyle meddles, and/or while we still have A-Rod/Harding as OC's. It's Kyle's prerogative to meddle, I get it. He's the head coach and we're lucky to have him. But it's bad business. We can't expect more from this team until Kyle changes how he does things, and until we get those idiots out of the OC position.

What an embarrassment. Seriously.

Until Kyle changes his philosophy our offense will continue to suck ***. I had high hopes for this season but it was the same old conservative **** with no offensive ingenuity. We don't run screens, our HB is not a part of our offense at all. We run deep routes and run the ball, that is it. Safest possible pass mixed in with a few slants and a lot of runs. I'm not sure replacing the entire offensive staff solves anything, because Kyle will still be in charge and they'll still play as conservative as possible. which will get them 8-10 wins a year but never have that spectacular season.

Did Whitt coach them to an undefeated season and *** Whooping over alabama? If so, I consider kinda spectacular.
 
Was expecting a little more out of Troy Williams
Had high hopes he would play closer to Lamar Jackson in elite athlete skills and high IQ
He blew a read option at goal line when Joe would have walked into endzone
He threw into double coverage a couple times
But receivers were bad too
They dropped easy passes and caught bad throws
Will Troy be back next year?

Yes he did. The last 3 years they had the south title in hand and lost to crappy teams. Back then he still had to prove himself, and was not as conservative as he has not become. That was 8 years ago, against a mostly MWC schedule. I like where he's brought the team, But I'm about as frustrated as a Ute fan as I was when it was time for McBride to move on. I don't think it's time for Kyle to move on...But I can't be the only one frustrated with back to back disappointing finishes. This season feels like a complete fail.
