Point Guard Contingency Plan - Summer of 2017

Can someone compare dwill numbers, (stats) vs hill?
I'm thinking they will be surprisingly close.
(I'm in my car right now so I can't do)

They aren't really comparable IMO. The eye test alone gives Hill a huge advantage.

VORP, DRTG, ORTG, PER, TS%... The only area Williams is better is in assists, but is that him or the system each plays in?

I disagree. Teague stated over and over again he wanted to do a long term deal when he was traded. Ind hasn't done it yet, because of contract issues with George (wanting to extend/re-sign him).

We could have extended Teague the day after we aquired him. But, it now looks like both Ind and Utah will have to fork out big bucks to keep their PG's.

At least you can understand Ind...they were trying to keep George. Utah? Just cheap. Trying to outsmart the rest of the league.
Did teams just say to the jazz "hey jazz, do you want hill or teague? Your choice. We don't care."

Frank was right. Not very close

Jazz have absolutely screwed themselves over with their cheapness. Remember when I said that the main factor in Utah wanting Hill over Teague was because Hill was cheaper? lol. Guess that blew up in their faces. Not only does it sound like Hill will get 30 million a year...

Where does it sound like that? It sounds like he may be ASKING for $30 million, but that doesn't mean he'll get it. I'd be shocked if he did.

There comes a point, a quality control if you will where the team, long-term, would be better off using the spot on a rookie to develop rather than a decent vet like Deron...

Maybe I'll get blasted for saying this, but to me they're pretty much the same. The extra assists Deron gets kind of offsets the extra points that Hill is averaging. Shooting percentage wise, there's obviously not a comparison.

Philly and I guess Dallas and Brooklyn could give him that type of $$..
4 years, 105M. Who would do it?

Definitely Philly. It wouldn't even phase them and he's not a traditional pg which is perfect next to Simmons.

Philly also had that outragous overbid offer that ran up the price on Manu last summer, so I wouldn't put it past em. They've clearly got $$ to burn.

We need to give Exum the starting job in this situation. Let him free and play 30+ minutes a game and see what we got. He was a top-5 pick and a top-3 prospect in that draft by a lot of people. He's starting to play very well.

And the jazz were badass his rookie year when he started

I think if Hill is going to command 30M for 4+ years and Exum continues to show some improvement over the last 25 games, I'd prefer to roll the dice with Exum. We'd obviously have to get someone to push him/insurance through the draft or through a quality backup (better quality than Mack) FA but I'd prefer that route. Hope Favors gets healthy (he's looked more physically healthy to me), Hood becomes more consistent, maybe use a fraction of that money to sign PJ Tucker for some toughness (which we sorely need)/stretch 4 game we need, or someone else, which helps leave the door open to also retain Favors and Hood if we so choose. Of course, that approach also opens the door more for Hayward leaving I would think.

Solid post.

A disappointing plan B. I hope we at least TRY to get Holiday.

I think most contingency plans are disappointing by nature. In high school I always had a couple plan B girls lined up just in case... I was never real happy when it came down to plan B... but it was better than nothing.

Dallas could have a lot of flexibility next year enough to afford Hill for $30MM if Dirk wants to play for cheap and go for it and they wait to do Noel's deal last to go over the cap..

They might even be able to add a player like Shabazz Muhammad too..

Lets say they get Lauri Markkanen with the draft pick.. thats a much improved squad

PG - Hill, Ferrell, Barea,
SG - Matthews, Curry, Hill, Brussino
SF - Barnes, Muhammad, Finney-Smith
PF - Markkanen, Dirk, Powell
C - Noel, Powell, Hammons

Damn, that's a young & exciting team. They've done well to reboot on the fly.

They've got a decent chance to hit a top-3 pick too so that's not even a best-case scenario..

Lets say somehow they landed Lonzo Ball and signed Blake Griffin... that team is going to the playoffs.. Pretty sure thats something close to the best-case rebuild scenario for them.. obviously Blakes not going there tho..

I like the idea of just giving Exum the reigns of the team if Hill is too much. He's healthy now and we need to see what we have with him in years 3 and 4. Look to a deep pg draft, FA and trades for possible backups for insurance at the position.
