Reading the Tea Leaves

Hansbrough had a few jumpers and putbacks, mostly energy plays. He also made a few good post moves. That doesn't make me want Millsap back.

I didn't see the game last night.. but if TH was really owning Favors.... wow.

It was really bad. Hence the conclusion that I have come to that the team has given up on Corbin (I have as well in case that wasn't clear).

And Boozer the game before and Bass the game before that.

The Jazz aren't doubling the post though (Kanter's been doubling mediocre wing players looking to pull up from 20 feet...), and Favors isn't playing any help defense. Not sure if it's by design (keeping Favors out of foul trouble???) or if it's poor execution.

No one's playing that hard right now except Richard Jefferson, Mike Harris and Rudy Gobert. Part of it, I think, is that guys are pacing themselves. There's no bench to relieve them. Part of it is that games haven't been winnable. But playing hard for 15 or 20 minutes a night isn't the same as playing hard for 35 or 40 minutes.

If shots start falling and we get a couple a wins it will be interesting to see what kind of effect it has on our effort and execution.

We forget the team didn't look half bad the first few games of the season.

Who stays;
Burke
Hayward
Rush
Kanter
Gobert

Favors and Burks get traded.
Between those trades, the available cap space/FA, and the draft, we pick up;
1) veteran stud PG (trade or FA)
2) defensive center (gsw pick netting Embiid or WCS - or from trade/FA)
3) A versatile scoring forward with our own pick (Randle or Parker)

Ty fired toward end of season or off season.

I know this post will be replied to with much vitriol.. it's okay. I have thick skin.. say what you mean and let's have some healthy debate and figure this out. Then we can look back and see how well we, collectively, saw the strategy.
(Again, I'll defend my thoughts as to how I arrived at the above predictions shortly.)

Favors and Burks get traded before the trade deadline in the 2014-2015 season.

3) The best player in the draft with our own pick (I'm just feeling it. I believe that the lotto is going to go our way)

Crazy bold prediction. Bogut gets hurt, curry demands a trade, and GSW are forced to rebuild. We trade favors and picks for curry.

2015 playoffs lineup
curry
wiggins
hayward(could easily be hayward parker as well)
kanter
gobert(develops a kareem type sky hook that is unstopable)

LOL.. so basically that's the team I had suggested in the previous page, with Andrew Harrison & Curry swapped over?

Nice.

You mean you think we will keep Hayward, Kanter, and Gobert? Are you srs. I believe PKM was the first to state that we would keep those 3.

Burke
Hayward
Rush
Kanter
Gobert
Harris

Nice try taking cred though for something that is to most a foregone conclusion.

That lineup makes my pants so damn tight!

Favors isn't gone unless he stinks it up into next year.
He'll get his act together, and anchor this defense.

We need Hay to run, and lead this offense, Fav needs to be the guy on D.
I agree we need another PG. Could your boy Harrison be that guy, or are you locked into the vet coming?
You know me I want us to use our high pick on anyone buy a PG in 2014, but I'll try and keep an open mind.

Actually PKM, I agree with most of your post. So perhaps the Jazz signed Favors to trade him. At first it doesn't make sense but after thinking about it, I think a team would want a young defensive young player who is locked in at a reasonable price.

I would trade Favors over Kanter simply because Kanter can score. If the Jazz were able to get WCS or Embiid losing Favors would n't matter. Besides Kanter is a PF and should not be playing C. Hopefully Gobert comes back with some muscle and weight to add to our center position.

Jazz draft our wing of the future (Parker/Wiggins)

I don't see why the Jazz would keep Harris or Rush. Harris is a Ty guy and Rush isn't the player he was and unless he drops 25 lbs and starts making 3 pts I don't see him being here. He is a free agent so perhaps you get him cheap but their is still some risk in bringing him back.

I agree if I were trading two of the core. Right now it would be Favors and Burks. I would even consider trading Burke if the Jazz can get back a proven PG.

I think it would be kind of slimy to not bring Ty back as the coach but I could see it happening. Right now I think there is a 20-30 percent chance Ty is back. Perhaps they could give him a position in the organization for his loyalty. I don't know. I don't think Ty is the right coach but I like him as a person.

Nice job PKM
Tyrone has been given 3 seasons too many as a head coach for the Utah Jazz. What do you mean it would be slimy? A business is a business.

Ty was told he'd be judged on the defense. So far, it hasn't been very good. And it's not like he can counter with, "well, see how great my offensive system is?" Granted, Ty was handed a poor roster, Even considering that, he's taken lemons and turned them into pee water.

He's been with the team for some time now, though, the interim year, and the lockout season + the season with The core/vets. If a good coach handled our team last year we'd have easily been playoff bound. Ty should go be an assistant. And not with the Jazz.

As for the OP, I have to disagree a bit with PKM (I know, a dangerous undertaking). I think Lindsey feels confident Favors will evolve. Kanter is a beast on the offensive glass, but needs to play tougher defense. Gobert is looking like a steal. Add a backup PF with some range and that rotation is set. Hayward's shooting will come around...he's done this for three straight years (started off slow). I do think Burks is least important, especially if the Jazz draft a wing. There are backups to be had for cheaper than what Alec will want. I'm not sold on Burke, either. I think that pick was a mistake. Trey can't get his shot off in the NBA. He couldn't do it even in the summer league. Burke and Burks could be dangled in trades along with future picks (not Utah's 2014 1st-rounder, of course) to obtain decent veteran(s) to lead the team.

Yea, because business never gets dirty. It would be slimy because Ty wanted to sign vets while Lindsay wanted a full rebuild. To blame Ty for everything is wrong. The roster sucks except for the first 4 or 5 guys and there are several inexperienced players on the team.

I know most people have wanted Ty gone day one so that is probably why some people might not think it is slimy especially when you consider all the stuff Ty has had to deal with. However, I am sure Ty haters don't see it that way.

They wouldn't fire him based on win/loss but rather their confidence in him as a coach.
Nothing dirty about that.

Michael Carter-Williams shot 32.7% from the FIELD in the Pre-Season, and 27.3% from three.

He will never learn how to get his shot off in the NBA. Geez, was that pick ever a mistake.
