REALGM: Joe wants out

The incentive for Utah is to treat him really well because guys like him aren't beating down doors to play in Utah. You want other players to hear how things work in Utah so that someday they might consider signing here as well.

BTW, Utah was talking of buying him out well before this story came out. Not only are they not going to play hardball with him, they will not trade him to the highest bidder, but instead help him get to a team he wants to play for. That means they will buy him out, even if it means turning down some minor asset from a team he doesn't want to go to.

Utah is going to bend over backwards to treat Joe well in this case.

Completely agree. Was kinda pissed reading JJ "wants out of Utah"... we don't need that noise, didnt think it was nessessary because I beleive the FO will look after him. I dont care either way now though.

Even now?

What the hell is the deal with Jazz fans wanting to make favorable trades with the Celtics? **** that. **** them. I’m not dealing with Boston until Ainge is gone. Find a better deal that won’t piss off the majority of the fan base.

I absolutely agree with you.
Boston wouldn't even give us a trade exception during the whole Hayward fiasco. We were literally begging Hayward and the Celtics to help us out. I would not be surprised if the Jazz just put the Celtics on the do not call list.

I agree they should treat him well. But he's the one that wants out. Why should Utah pay the majority of his remaining salary? He wants out they should trade him if possible somewhere he wants to go. If that doesn't work then work out a buyout, but it shouldn't cost the Jazz the majority of the remaining salary to do him a favor.

In the end it doesn't matter much. The salary comes off the books so even if they buy him out for the full amount then it doesn't change the future.

Are you having a slow morning cupcake?

Utah should (quietly) negotiate his buyout, then trade him as an expiring along with some cash so that his new team can complete the buyout. Everyone wins.

Jazz get to use his contract for a part of a trade here to bolster their roster. JJ gets his cash for this year and an unrestricted shot to pick a team for a playoff run. The other team (likely) gets to shed future salary in a trade and the Jazz foot at least part of the bill to buy him out.

Jazz do right by Joe Jesus and everyone ends up happy by the arrangement.

What are we getting in return besides paying cash to get rid of JJ and have future salary obligations?

His salary is used to match in a deal for a guy that we do want.
That’s what I’m curious about are guys that make $10M that another team doesn’t want that we do.

Not sure, but I expect chatter on the Jazz to increase and if there’s a deal for a guy that’s over $10 million, I’d expect JJ to be the first one offered up to match that. Bledsoe and Griffin both being abruptly traded suggests that there’s at least some possibility that at least a small chance that a guy not on the radar gets moved somewhere.
