Roger Braille Buyout Problems (merged)

Break him. Make him come back run two a days or whatever. Fine him for being out of shape. Make him sit in a suit behind the bench. Never let him near the court. Have the cameras focus in on him at awkward times. Send Steve Brown to ask him questions like " what is it like to be a proud veteran sitting here watching these young guys make mistakes?" In all press releases spell his name Roger. Send him to Lake Point, American Fork and Syracuse to hand out tickets and meet the common man fans, let the people have a chance to talk with him. Move his locker to the far end of the room next to a noisy air vent, instead of a name plat scratch something on duct tape. Post that subway commercial on you-tube, send the link to Kobe. Tell him he is going to play, let him warm up and then just before tip off tell him never mind put your suit back on . Tell the parking lot attendant to leave his car in the snow, not to scrape the windshield and never warm it up. Fine him whenever he is late to practise or team meetings. When he asks for a sit down with KOC, schedule it for 5:30 Am the morning after a long road trip, or at 1:45 in the middle of three off days. Tell him KOC was called away at the last minute, but Randy Rigby wants to talk with him for two hours. Have the road manager lose his hotel key a couple times. Hey has anybody seen Roger's suitcase? Have the front desk give him a courtesy wake up call at 5 am. Or send the groupies to his room while he's on the phone talking to home. Have his wife's free seats be on row 43 in the nw corner of ESA. Give the rest of the tickets in row 43 and all of row 42 to junior jazz teams.

At the trade deadline give Toronto a 2nd round pick and cash to take him. Raja will love having to get a visa and pay all those taxes. Fine him if he doesn't report.

This is in the Crittercam echelon of amazing posts. Outstanding.

This is the best post I have ever seen and I will use it to make my bad days happy... I used to just lurk around here reading posts occasionally but had to re-register my account just to tell you thank you.

My apologies if someone has already mentioned this, but the guy who started a good portion for our team at SG last year is unable to find a team that covets his services. Think about that. This is both very disheartening and cause for optimism at the same time. It's disheartening because it shows ineptness on the part of both KOC for bringing him here and the coaching staff for playing him as much as they did (especially considering Burks could have really benefitted from those minutes). And it's cause for optimism because we basically got rid of one of the least coveted FA's I can remember and are replacing him with players like Foye, Burks and Hayward.

It's because this organization it's too soft. I sad that a couple of times during the last season.

They wait until the problem and the frustration because of that problem is so big, so only than they start to do something.

They've been soft also with BigAl and Watson. And with Millsap when he suddenly disappear for 10-15 games (after the media pay attention to his good game).

The thing that doesn't make sense about this situation is that Raja would have had to give up something for KOC to agree not to amnesty him. Presumably they would have talked about the scenario that Roger (as he now will be called) wouldn't get a deal. And it's not logical a team would ever agree to a buyout for the same dollar figure as the contract they're buying out. So how is it that those figures weren't agreed upon?

It seems to me that maybe Roger is reneging on his verbal pledge (or claiming it was vague.) But there is a small chance KOC didn't care about amnestying him and is now stuck with trying to work out a buyout (the 'agreement' only being that he could legally pitch his services to other teams without tampering because KOC sanctioned it.)

as to the bolded part... i see where you're going, but that's not exactly true. roger and rudoy are smart enough to understand that amnestying bell doesn't really do anything for the over-the-cap-under-the-tax jazz. they understood that a buyout would be a lot more advantageous than an amnesty because a buyout saves them actual money and all an amnesty waiver saves them is cap/tax flexibility, which does the jazz no good in their current salary situation. so if you're implying that roger owes KOC something for avoiding amnesty, that's not really the case.

Even CJ Miles is in higher demand than Roger Braille.

If we can't get anything for him, then I think there is a way to deal with him. Keep him on the whole season, assign him to the D-League and bench him there. He knows he's not getting any younger and that he will have missed another year for what amounts to be a very childish reason. Take the buyout and go play for a contender. Or go ride the bench with the Reno Big Horns -- that's the choice. Literally not a minute of playing time. That might just teach him a lesson and destroy whatever credibility he has left as a legit NBA player.

If he won't agree to the buyout, I hope the Jazz say "fine, then stay home" and a minute after the deadline when waived players can be eligible for the playoffs, the Jazz waive him. Suck it Roger.

Please, the man's leadership and lockdown defense have earned him a spot on a playoff team, and the Jazz should do their best to let him achieve his goals. Just sour grapes, there, YB.

Just like last year is cool with me.

the first interesting thing that hit me when i saw that graphic is that the guy hasn't played a playoff game since 2008.

the second thign is that, even back when he did play in the playoffs, he had a career playoff PER of 11!! and yet teams (including the jazz in 2010) keep signing this guy to bring all that veteran presence and winning mentality. this tells me that, not only were the jazz wrong about raja 2 summers ago, but probably the entire NBA community has been wrong about raja for the last decade.
