Ainge over Battier? For real?
An over-active owner worries me.listened to Tony Jones on Checketts's show today; somewhat different emphasis there, despite acknowledging the real (and juicier) rift between Quin and DL:
- Tony was pretty firm that the more important rift than the QS/DL one was the Ryan Smith/DL one (though didn't provide details about the substance of the breakdown, whether basketball personnel/philosophy, management style, or whatever else).
-Tony seems to be preparing Jazz fans for the eventual Ainge regime (not necessarily that he'll take over DL's role directly, though didn't rule that out, but that his impact on Smith is likely to be heavy, whatever his title ends up being).
-both Tony and Checketts quickly dismissed any possibility that Battier is in play for a role with the Jazz -- they've both been told rather directly apparently that that's not something Battier is after
- Spence particularly, though Tony seemed to concur somewhat, suggested strongly that this whole shakeup is really all about Smith -- his desire to be heavily involved as an owner, his fondness for the spotlight, etc. To me this signals that we as fans should prepare for a possibly tumultuous road ahead, with likely a lot less emphasis on long-term continuity. Hope Smith ends up pulling it off successfully.
it sounds like Battier isn’t pursuing the job here?Ainge over Battier? For real?
To get rid of Bradley-one 2nd round pick. That is just insane. What did it get us Matty Ice?

*Wind HorseWindhorst acted like it was Battier’s job and that Ainge was a long shot.
One of them (I forgot which) suggested that Battier isn't really interested in being in the NBA at all at this point. An over-active owner worries me.

My order of preference with Conley:Yeah, who knows? However Tony pushed back hard (Tony's own opinion) on the suggestion that maybe the Jazz shouldn't prioritize Conley .
The Knicks turned around and traded Davis for two second round picks and filler that was waived. They got 4 picks out of that deal. Bradley was then traded straight across for a guy who didn’t play this year, without having to dump a pick.To get rid of Bradley-one 2nd round pick.
To get rid of Ed-two 2nd round picks
To get rid of Tucker-one 2nd round pick
To get Matty ice-one 2nd round pick
To get Doke-one 1st round pick
To sign Hughes- one 2nd round pick PLUS 2.4M in salary guaranteed through the end of next season.
That's 7 draft picks equate to zero in production.
Nah I just thought it was hilarious... he wasn’t mean but just very dismissive and really scoffed at the idea that someone thought he was going to get cut. He actually did a lot of jobs in the front office. He got 42 years for a reason I’m sure.
why do we give NWG the benefit of the doubt and not Shaq? Just curious. Seem to remember once Quin decides a guy can’t play and other nba teams don’t sign him that it’s obvious the guy sucks.LIke, I get not wanting to play Exum much. Dude was a super weird player and just flat out couldnt do a lot of things that normal NBA players can (shoot off the dribble). Goss had talent and ability to play, he just wasnt a great athlete. Why not give him a shot and see if he figures out the athleticism gap? It kind of makes me worried long-term about dudes like Elijah Hughes. Once Quin decides you can't play, do you really have a shot at getting on his good side?
Try convincing Udoka of that. I am sure he is having one of those what the blank moments. The real issue is if they were going to bring back Favors then why do you draft him?I mean, just because they didnt want to draft him where they did doesnt mean they don't want him.
This is my main complaint with Quin and is worrisome for future players. Quin is like Sloan in his regard for keeping the rotations the same. I think this was one reason why the Jazz never won a championship.LIke, I get not wanting to play Exum much. I agree. DL gave away draft picks like it was candy at Halloween.DL burnt a total of 7 draft picks in a span of 4 months. Whoever is taking change at management, it's really tough to recover from that.
That's why we should've moved DL last year. He clearly lost it. Tony Jones kinda said it in his podcast that it wasn't even Quin who was fed up, it was Ryan Smith who wanted him out personally. But losing this season really hurts, since we might not get another legit shot at a championship with DM/Rudy again. The Knicks turned around and traded Davis for two second round picks and filler that was waived. How many draft picks would it have taken to unload DL?That's why we should've moved DL last year. He clearly lost it. Nah. Why unload him when you can just "promote" him?How many draft picks would it have taken to unload DL?
Yeah unless the guy was also being divisive for whatever reason, that would have been the classy move.I mean, it’s obvious the source is Fredman, right?
Guy was like, “fire me after 42 years? Hell ya I’m airing the dirty laundry from the last few seasons.”
Well played, Fred. Well played. And honestly, I would have let the Jazz lifer retire on his terms were I Smith. I would have trimmed elsewhere.
That many 2nd rounders just do not exist. Mainly because DL used them all up.How many draft picks would it have taken to unload DL?
