No. There is a limit as to what NBA teams can pay. Raul Lopez basically played for free his first season because he had to pay for his buyout. About the only way to structure this would be to give Tomic $5M for three years with a nice signing bonus. Then he would have the upfront cash to pay his buyout and take home $10M combined after that for Years 2 and 3 of his contract.
I like the idea that if we're going with the youth movement and Favors and Kanter are going to start to bring in Tomic who's not an inexperienced player but would be new to the NBA, so I wouldn't expect his ego to get in the way of enthusiastically coming off the bench behind those two. That's something I didn't think Sap would fit into very well. I think he'd want a bigger role and it would affect team chemistry.

NBA teams can contribute $600,000 towards a buyout under the current cba. I can't find a buyout for Tomic currently, it is probably just private. I bet it is a smaller one than before, because he signed the new contract after a couple of particularly bad years, probably diminishing the chance he would come to the nba at that point.

Congrats to him. At the same time, with Rudy Fernandez and Nenad Krstic also making it, two former below average NBA players, it shows you the immense talent difference compared to the NBA.
I don't disagree entirely, but I'd call them average rather than below average. Good backups, fringe starters -- 20-25 mpg types. For my mind what I'd hope Tomic could be for us. Fernandez probably could have done more if his heart had been in the NBA. Krstic started off his career well, then fell of something of a cliff in 2007-8 (were there injuries or just a change of philosophy with his team? -- I don't remember). Though I don't fully like WS/48 as a measure, both hovered around .100 for their career, which indicates an average player. For comparison, the careers of: Jefferson .129, Kanter .098, Millsap .156, Favors .105.

In WP48, which I like a bit better as it weights efficiency more strongly than production (and again .100 is average), Fernandez was .147, while Krstic was .019 (for comparison: Jefferson .099, Favors .138, Kanter .106, Millsap .165).

I feel the same.
I think some people are thinking it's being suggested that Tomic will make a huge impact on this team right away.
I for one am not saying that he will. He is a 3rd big that should play good, maybe great, against 2nd units/bench players......which is where the top of the Euroleague comparisons are fair.
He's a great option to have since Al and Paul are both most likely gone.
Millsap should not be back in a Jazz uniform and I would prefer Tomic off the bench.......since Paul won't be satisfied unless he's starting.
However, getting a deal done with the current euro contract is a bit of uncharted waters for the Jazz. Lindsey will be the perfect person to have champion the cause if the Jazz decide to lure Tomic away from his comfort zone in Spain.
Odds are still below 50% Tomic ever ends up playing at ESA..........but they've never been higher than they have this off-season.
Tomic would be a nice impact player off the bench. He can come in score, pass, and rebound. Can't ask for much more.

Apples to oranges due to the health/ injury questions surrounding him at the time. Without those, he would have had HUGE trade value. Then once he proved durable in his first NBA season, his value was established (remember he was ROY runner-up and 6th man runner-up). I loved his game, his BB IQ, passing skills, toughness. Walton said he was a 7 foot 3 Larry Bird (slight exaggeration, sure). In the HOF with good reason.

Locke just confirmed in Tip Off yesterday that the Jazz are interested in Tomic for this season. Jazz officials were present for Barca final four playoffs.
Still can't find numbers for his Barcelona contact. It must be private.
