Tomic offered buyout:

Some of you might not know this, but the Jazz actually drafted a female player once. Then found out she was pregnant. True story.

Was it Karl Malone's child?

Edit: just noticed the date. Probably Wilt's. Of course, the question: "have you ever had unprotected sex with a man" is still prohibited in the NBA, so there is still no way of making sure potential draft picks are not "with child." This is likely the reason other women like Birttney Griner have not been drafted by NBA teams. Just too big a risk to take.

Or maybe her husband's, seeing as how she got married in Feb of that year.

A child conceived out of wedlock? Imagine the scandal that would have caused in Utah in 1977!

At least Utah has the distinction of "officially" drafting the only woman in the history of the NBA. The San Francisco Warriors did it 8 years earlier, but their pick was voided.

Will we know by the draft if Tomic is coming over?
If we draft Kaminsky I'd say without a doubt he isnt, if we don't I would say signs are pointing to him coming over.

With him, the Playoffs are certain.
I agree.
With LeBron the playoffs would be a certainty as well.
We ain't getting either one of them though

I feel like this ahole is just using us to settle his contract disputes. I've decided I hate him.

You're posting an article from February! JK. It did take me a second to realize it wasn't though.

Good for him if he's using us to get more money. I wonder if he'd be more interested in coming over if it was for a bigger city like NY or LA. Not that I want the Jazz to trade his rights to those teams.

Yeah I thought his contract was a done deal, but apparently not so.

A.) He already has his contract from Barcelona that was significantly higher than what they said they'd pay. It doesn't keep him from considering an offer from the Jazz, it just sets the floor.

B.) He couldn't communicate with the Jazz until July, so his option was to take the deal or wait until July and see if a better offer could be had from either team. Not a sure bet that something couldn't dramatically change between now and then.

C.) He had significant leverage, and there's an NBA buyout in the new contract (although how much is unknown).

D) Most of us would have taken the offer from Barcelona instead of hoping that things went well this summer.

E.) The Jazz stopped talking publicly about if after he signed the contract, but there seemed to be considerable interest on their part. Depending on the specifics of the buyout, there's no reason to assume that interest has changed.

F.) If Utah wants to bring him over, they have the resources to pay off the buyout and make a very competitive offer. Depending on how the draft goes, I think there's still a slight chance that they may go that route.

G.) Tomic used the leverage that he had to get a good extension from Barcelona, but there's also nothing stopping him from meeting with the Jazz this summer and deciding to come over if they want him badly enough. As I see it, all he's done so far is made sure that both teams can't lowball him. He got the best deal that he could from Barca, and if the Jazz offer him something significantly better, I think he'll consider it.

I get why fans have fatigue over Tomic, but the Jazz spurned him first. After testing their interest in 2012, he signed with Barcelona and developed exactly how we'd hoped he would. The fact that he has options doesn't make him a bad guy. The buyout has been (and always will be) the key factor. I'm not expecting him to come over, but I haven't completely ruled it out. He took the best deal on the table, but still has the potential to upgrade. Pretty sure I'd have done the exact same thing.

Sorry date on the story is old, but it showed up on Hoopshype today and in Sportando's twitter today... no idea what is going on.

I hope not, it may be the last time they have a chance at drafting in the lottery for a LOOONNNG time. Unless they trade to move up and get Johnson, Winslow or Hezonja

If Tomic comes over the Jazz, IMO, will combine the #12 and some other assets to go after a vet PG as back up. They jump all in on the playoffs.

On RealGM (I think) saw a trade deal that shipped out Burke and teh #12 (there were other details I cannot remember) for Ramon Sessions. I'll use that as an example. Personally I am not the guy to propose trade ideas.

Gobert/Tomic/Cooley
Favors/Booker/Evans
Hayward/Ingles
Burks/Hood/Millsap
Exum/Sessions/Cotton

14 players and damn good.

If they're still considering bringing Tomic over, I hope that they draft someone regardless.

My preference is that they trade up for Winslow, Hezonja, Johnson or Porzingis. . . but even if they take Kaminsky or Turner, Tomic and Frank/Myles >>> Evans and Cooley.
