Tomic offered buyout:

I don't wanna

Go ahead and imagine it. The tank is dead. Quin stared it to death early last season. That's when I knew we wouldn't be getting a very good pick in the draft. Guy is too intense to let the young guns sit on their laurels or continue to stumble in mediocrity.

Here is my favorite plan for the Jazz this summer.

1. Offer Tomic what it takes to come over. Jazz will have the money for the next 3 years (then they have to re-sign exum, hood, Favors and Hayward). Probably a cap of 8-9 million per, but doubt it takes this much.

2. Trade up for either Johnson or even better Winslow. Use GS pick, next year protected, OKC pick, Burke, even Booker if it helps. Johnson or Winslow can be a stretch 4 on the bench and defensive stopper against sg/sf/pf, draymond green type role.

3. Draft a development PG in the second (Harrison?). If Burke is traded or doesn't improve next year, they can find a vet PG for a playoff run in 2016/2017. Next year is still a development year, but they should be able to make the playoffs.

4. Go out and kick some major booty!

Exum/Burke(if not traded)/Cotton/Rookie PG
Hood/Burks/Milsap
Hayward/Rookie SF/Ingles
Favors/Booker or Rookie SF
Gobert/Tomic

I love this potential lineup. Would all be together (except maybe Booker and burke) for the next 3 years also ready to kick butt and compete for a championship.

Just wanted to add some important information because people is assuming the buyout is the key for bringing him over. Gigantes reported two days ago that Tomic hasn't signed the extension yet. They agreed in principle on the extension but it seems he is just buying some time until the Jazz can make an offer (leverage baby!). His contract expires in July if I remember correctly, so the buyout is not an issue. It comes to the salary and perhaps things like his role on the team, quality of living in SLC compared to Barcelona, etc.

Anyway, I'm taking every bit of information with a grain of salt until he signs a contract either with us or Barcelona. Too much he thinks/says/it's believed....

If he's only agreed to terms, it actually makes me think that the Jazz got hot and heavy about showing their interest behind the scenes. Adding Tomic without having a huge buyout would be even better. I'd love it if they could make two moves this offseason - C and PG. Ante Tomic is a better fit for the Jazz than any veteran big on the market (and likely at a fraction of what he'd cost on the open market) and signing him would give the Jazz the depth needed behind Gobert without overpaying in free agency this summer.

Thanks for posting. Repped.

Fantastic news. No doubt Utah has at least communicated to his agent they are very interested but prohibited from talking specifics until July 1st. I'm salivating at the thought of Gobert, Favors. Tomic and Booker as our 4/5 rotation. If I were DL I'd look to draft a combo forward for depth (since Favors can also play the 5 if needed). Only hole is PG but I agree with those who said we'll likely wait one more year - or at least until the trade deadline to address that issue.

I guess that means I should post the latest Tomic highlight video. Id pay good money to see one of those Tomic post passes to a cutting Burks.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I didn't want to start a new one.

GOAT Jazz players list

Ante Tomic

That's all I have so far. Guyz, will you help me fill out the rest of our GOAT Jazz player roster please.

TIA

I hear Enes Kanter is a FA; he'd be better than Ajinca.

Seriously, even if Tomic demanded $8M, he'd be a better bargain than any FA center we could sign,

If Tomic entered teh NBA draft this year and was guaranteed to come over, what pick do you think he would be?

No, not necessarily. There is a legitimate concern that his game doesn't translate to the NBA level.

Tomic reminds me of Pau. In looks and style of play.

I'd be ok with a Gaso-lite off the bench.

Maybe there is some team he would love to play for over here that isn't the Jazz and we could at least facilitate a sign and trade (if legal)?
Tomic knows Gobert and Favors will be getting the lion's share of minutes, he is not a moron, and may not like that situation even if its
better money here. After being a star for so long on Barcelona and Real Madrid, that would be quite a downgrade.
If I'm DL, my only goal at this point is to get an asset for him while you still can.

Lion's share of minutes, yes. But still not unreasonable. He certainly won't be a starter, but he's started 90% of his games in Spain and has only averaged 22 minutes per game over that 4 year span. I'm pretty sure he'll get adequate playing time. Kanter averaged 28 minutes per game, Booker averaged 19 minutes per game and the combination of Evans/Cooley averaged a combined 12 minutes per game after the trade deadline. I'm sure Quin will work it out. Playing behind Favors/Gobert gives him time to acclimate his game to the NBA and helps keep them fresh for the playoffs (when they qualify.)

If this is true, then that's great! He'd be a great backup for Rudy. So us drafting Kaminsky is out the door then, right? Having Tomic on the team is such a big plus! Like the dude's game and passing skills.

Doesn't say anything about Tomic accepting, but with this report it seems like the door is still open.

I hope so, cause I really don't care for Kaminsky. Tomic would be much better, and they could get a good wing for the bench instead. My pipe dream is Winslow, but would also like Johnson.
