What's new

Trey Lulz

I didn't like the pick, and the early results are suspicious. But he is young, and a Jazzman so I want him to succede.

Maybe 3 people did. I (along with others) said good things about him, just like we voiced our agreement in wanting Harkless (who hasn't looked like much).

Yeah, I think most people where down with Aminu, I wasn't championing him, but I was calling for a big 3 who could play 4 and be a physical defender.

Really, other than getting pump faked, he looked good on defense with Favors. He closed out pretty well, boxed out (for the most part), and got rebounds.

Yes he did, this was a close game. All the other games he played spot minutes and it's effects were minimal. But last night he got some real burn and Bosh just destroyed him.
The team shot 38% for the night including Hood's 4-14. Booker, Ingles, and Burke were 3-13. Bosh was 5-9 with 10 pts. while Lyles was on the floor. I'm not sure that's destroying him, but whatever. Lyles contributed to the loss but he didn't single handedly lose the game for us.

Quin has to stop playing him as a center if he is interested in winning games.

This I don't get. By playing him as a center, you're pretty much setting him up to fail. He's too small and weak, and he doesn't have the skill set for it on either end.

I haven't been impressed by him at all. He just doesn't seem to do anything all that well. Only thing he did well last game was going for rebounds with energy. I think he has a nice stroke, and he will probably develop into a decent shooter down the line. But from what we've seen so far, I'm kind of underwhelmed.

But Hayward, the team stud, not being able to hit a 4th quarter free throw didn't kill us?

Okay.

Lyles is a rookie. Not a very good one right now. To put this game on him while Hayward missed gimmes is just full-out Jazzfanz stupid.

Temper expectations, morans.

Everyone misses FTs. Why is that relevant?

Shouldn't he be a little better than he is? I know he's a rookie, but what does he even do?
Trey is really good at putting the ball to the floor and driving and passing. He just has that knack for running and dribbling, then throwing the ball somewhere, not many players have that knack. That knick knack patty wack, give a dog a bone.

I think we can all assume that playing Pleiss instead of Lyles wouldn't have won the game. It does surprise me some that Withey hasn't been playing, though. I think he might have been able to be a factor. But other than that, I agree with those who have said that it's encouraging that Lyles is getting a chance to develop. I'm sure Quin knows Lyles isn't ready to really help them win right now but he must be seeing enough in practice that he thinks by later in the season Lyles will be helping us win if he gets development time now. That's my take on things.

Found this article, good reminder.

Lindsey after the draft of Trey Lyles:

As they have upgraded equipment around the arena and practice facility, the Jazz are now testing proprioception ("just a fancy word for balance," Lindsey said). Of the 101 prospects who worked out for the Jazz this some, none tested better than Lyles.

Lindsey said, "We had multiple teams that were presenting us multiple firsts to move into 12. What it did was it validated the value that we felt was there."

The team is in trouble if that's what they are basing their decisions off of. That should be pretty far down the list of things you want in a player. You would think Devin Booker's shooting skill we old trump Trey Lyles balance skill.

Good hell.

Relax, it is a rebuild and the Jazz are not skipping any steps.
