I will have to check those out. Thanks!

...and ditto here. Also, the narrator's voice here sounds suspiciously like Jeremy Irons. Probably just someone with a similar-sounding voice.

I never played the original XCOM, but I played Apocalypse and this game definitely plays like apocalypse. But there are some differences and I imagine those differences keep it more inline with the original.

Frustrating. Can't imagine playing this game in ironman. I'm on normal difficulty and I'm playing most missions 5 or more times just so I can keep casualties to less than half my squad.

Takes a lot of discipline no matter the mission. No gimmes. Aliens aren't smart really, but they are better equipped. Try to meet them head on and you're gonna get hurt. Getting out of the dropship is a challenge unto itself. Then there's entering the alien ship... Torture.

Love it.

It's a lot of hopping out of cover, taking a shot, and then jumping back while setting up some of your soldiers for overwatch. That's why I preferred new XCOMs cover system.

I still really want to play it, but I'm holding out for a sale. But if there's no deal by Black Friday, I'll probably just get it regardless. It does look amazing. Good to hear you're enjoying it.

You got any tips for entering the alien ships? Seems like there aren't very many good options. I just send in my most expendable guy to draw them out and then hope I get lucky a couple times more than they get lucky.

My strategy is to line up all of your guys in front of the door (front line crouching back line standing), open the door, toss a flashbang to stun aliens and keep them from returning fire, explosives and heavies to blow up cover if needed. Assaults are great for cleaning up the leftovers. It's also easily exploitable if you just close the door after you finish shooting because the aliens won't open it up on their turn. The downside there is that they often reposition or run into another room so you won't know where they are immediately. The back rooms are a bit more of a hassle but you just have to accomplish the same thing with fewer resources. Flashbangs, smoke, explosives (or stun grenades), assault.

So I think I'm going to go ahead and recommend this game: Crypt of the Necrodancer.

It's been on my Steam wishlist, and I bought it this weekend since it was on sale. Played it for about two hours now, and it's every bit as fun, challenging, and interesting as I had hoped it would be (how the developer came up with the concept, I'll never know). It's a shining example of rock-solid old-school game design: difficult but never cheap, it takes a short time to learn the mechanics and a lifetime to master them. It's 33% off until 11am tomorrow.

Portal and Portal 2. Two of the best games I've ever played. Finished Portal in one day and Portal 2 in 3 days. I don't know why I waited this much to play this game.

Shadow of Mordor is amazing. Play it.

I refuse to play it until I get a new gen system. Apparently the one system where the bad guys retain their memories is nerfed on the 360/PS3. Though it'll probably be the first game I get with it.
