"Why Gordon Hayward Should Stay with The Utah Jazz" by David Locke

Trading the #1 pick was extremely dumb. I'm going to laugh if the Celtics lose out on all their top targets and start signing Tier 2 or 3 guys to big money just to do something (similar to the Lakers signing Deng and Mozgov last year.)

Quin and his staff did everything they could to help Hayward become an All-Star and be extremely efficient doing it. It was the Jazz that drafted Gordon rather than PG13 and it was the Jazz that taught him how to shave so he could land a dime piece like Robyn.
Was also the Jazz who sent him off on a free agent tour last time by refusing to pay him what he wanted (and IIRC, it wasn't the max). Was also the Jazz who decided to raze the bench so they could be a losing team for 4 years. Who wants to lose all the time? GH is a competitor; he wants to win.

TBH, I'm GLAD he's "holding out." Whichever teams shows him they're going to step up and provide a contender, that's the team he wants to play for. Maybe he really does want to stay, but he also wants to make sure the Jazz re-sign a really good guard and friend (Ingles) and if not Hill, because he wants too much, at least sign/trade for a quality PG. Does anyone think Lindsey would be working this hard if Hayward had just said to him, "I'll be there on July 1st to sign my deal?"

icing on the cake would be to see Fulz dump all over them 4 times every regular season and playoffs

I heard this on ESPN today. The reason Utah is last on the list is because.... Gordo's giving Utah 2 days to improve and if they sit on their hands, he's gone.

You heard this unsubstantiated rumor from a media source who has a raging hard on for him to go to Boston to benefit their NBA playoff ratings? K.

I'm sure you know way more than Brian Windhorst right? What does he know right? Not like the dude has mass connections right?

I never said I know more than anyone. I said ESPN has a rooting interest in Hayward joining Boston. They've been pushing Hayward to Boston rumors for months. During the draft they acted like it was a done deal. I don't trust anything any of their experts say in regards to Hayward unless it's backed up by a different source.

Why would Hayward stay if we don't improve the roster? Boston may not have everything figured out but they do have an easier path and a ****load of assets. ECF and the assets to get better or WC semi-finals and pretty much tapped?

The only way he stays is if we add something real nice, imo.

I think it's the other way around. He stays unless Boston improves their roster. The incumbent usually has an advantage. Utah is far more stable than Boston. Gobert is here for the long-term. We have a good young team that improves every year and will only keep improving. We may not have the same amount of assets to acquire another star but we have enough. Look at the Butler, CP3, Brook Lopez deals. It didn't take a ton to acquire those guys. Boston in the future is full of questions. Does IT stay past next year? How long can he play at his current level? Is Horford a long-term piece? Do Tatum and Brown develop into anything? Picks are great but how good will they really be?

This idea that Hayward wants to see if the Jazz are improving is ridiculous. If you want to win you don't ask the team to sign your buddies, you ask them to get the best players regardless of friendships.

Exactly, Hayward could just stay and wait for Hood, Exum and now Mitchell to develop.

Butler was right there for the taking. They could have gotten cousins too, if they wanted.

The fact that both those guys were available and that the Celtics had the assets, yet did nothing says a lot about how serious Ainge is about winning now.

I'M sure Hayward is really excited about who they are going to draft over the next few years, and how many draft picks Danny can carry around in his pocket.

It's kinda frustrating to me that BOS with all its picks and assets, has the opportunity to just walk in here and snatch Hayward away from us FOR FREE.

Basically just because Brad Stevens used to coach Hayward in College nearly 10 years ago.

It's maddening.

DL's own fault.

Hayward should not be an UFA til next summer. Only because he screwed up his RFA and made him see what he was worth are we dealing with this now.

It is that same action that may be the trigger that makes Hayward leave.

DL screwed the pooch with no vaseline.

I agree with what many of you are saying about the Celtics. I think we are as good as they are. Actually, I think we are better. However, Celtics with Hayward are better than us with Hayward. And they seemingly have a brighter future with Brown, Tatum, and high picks compared to our Exum, Hood, Mitchell, and late picks.

IT, Bradley and Hayward make up a very dynamic trio. Two can score while the other can shoot. All 3 are passers. Hayward and Gobert are monsters, but we need that 3rd option.

Favors, Diaw and a pick for Millsap gives us that option. Atlanta gets something for Millsap instead of losing him for nothing. If we are going in on Hill, go all in DL:

PG Hill, Exum
SG Hood, Mitchell, Burks
SF Hayward, Joe
PF Millsap, Bolomboy
C Gobert, Bradley
Ingles TBD

JoeJ becomes the cap casualty next summer. If we can find a way to dump Burks to a team desperate for a player, we do it. Go all in for a few years.

Ummmm we will offer him everything we can... regardless of what others offer. The CBA won't let us get anymore creative.
There is no way to offer performance bonuses or something?

Too early to say if trading the pick was dumb.
If Tatum is all nba in a few years and the dude they draft next year with the additional pick they acquired is an all star and fultz is a bust then I wouldn't look at it as a dumb trade.

Shad will always post anything that seems even slightly negative about the jazz. He is a huge jazz fan.

Maybe him and his family like the city, neighborhood they live in, made friends that they would not want to leave, like his teammates, coaching staff, management, etc.

Maybe his life off the court trumps on the court stuff. (Im doubtful but it's possible)

Then we would be doing all this again next year. Except then Paul george and lebron would be free agents and hayward could go to the Lakers or something to team up with them.
And if hayward decided to stay next year we might have to pay him even more money than we will this offseason.
