Define decent?

Is that $8M/per or about what Favors is paid ($12m). Or will another team, knowing the cap is going to skyrocket in 18 months, offer him $16M to pry him away?

13 million per year? Idk
That might even be too much

I just would not want to give him a Hayward style contract is what im saying I guess

.
Not 16
8 Would be a steal (and a pipe dream)
I think 13 million tops probably.

If it gets to 16, I expect the Jazz to maybe try a sign and trade. Tell the team (before the contract is signed) they can't let Kanter get away for nothing and would RELUCTANTLY have to match an offer that big. But they'd be willing to work a trade that would save both teams some money.

If I'm DL, I call Kanter's agent at 12:00.01 and offer him the same contract as Favors if he'll agree to sign immediately.

If he keeps these stats, someone will throw him max. or near-max money.
Is he worth it?
I doubt that.
Is he better than everybody Jazz front-court has to offer. Potential-wise, yes and that easily.
Still, with the emergence of Go-bear, Jazz won't feel a rush to sign EK for a price that high.
Besides, Booker has been a good contributor off the bench.
This makes a max-Kanter redundant for Jazz, or better put, a luxury for the Jazz.
He must be traded.

one thing is for sure, someone will pay him big bucks. a 6-11 22 yo who can put the ball in the basket and is strong and fairly nimble ?? Enis is going to be able to buy all the flying carpets he wants.

Easy, he's a scoring machine, he will only get better on offence and defence

Or he might plateau. Right now he has to start getting to the FT line to take the next step scoring and start passing better. Defensively he just has to improve consistency.

I think the Jazz will keep him. He's too valuable an asset to just let walk away. I'm also interested to see what Greg Monroe gets offered. I could see someone offering Kanter 4 years and $42MM, which I think is matchable. I'd be surprised if he gets offered $50MM.

but he will get an offer like 48-52 MM for 4 years.

Booker is a scrub who averages 7 pts/per. To get to the next level, the Jazz need ELITE players. And Kanter at 20/10 (or close to it) would be elite, especially if he keeps improving on the defensive end. Jazz really can't do much in between the cap and luxury tax, other than using their exceptions. I really don't see the need to use those as Hood and our 2015 pick should be getting minutes. Developing them will be more important than picking up another Booker-type player. We also have no rookie contracts coming up the year after next. In '17/'18 Gobert and Hayward will be up for raises (if Hayward opts out, which I think is a given). If needed, I could see Favors getting traded at that time. Or with the new TV deal, any contract - even at $16M - might be viewed as a bargain for Kanter.

The time is past for letting players go. Need to concentrate on getting our "core8" in place (likely 3 bigs, 3 wings and 2 PG's). The other 5-7 players are guys are on rookie deals, vet minimums, and scrubs.

Bigs: Kanter, Gobert, Favors, stretch-4 (2015 (Porzingis?) or 2016 draft pick or FA
Wings: Hayward, Burks. Hood and 2015 (Johnson or Hezonja?) or 2016 draft pick or FA
PG's: Exum, Vet TBD (trade of Burke and picks?) , Neto

That's actually 11 players right there (4 bigs, 4 winsg, 3 PG's).

If we do lose Hayward or Favors, it's good DL has an extra first in 2017. Maybe could combine them and move up to get a replacement. And we hope our 2015 (mid lottery) and 2016 picks (late lottery or maybe late teens) are developed enough to break into the rotation. Our 2015 pick might even be a starter down the road.

This is why the NBA needs to raise the age limit to 21-22. It's stupid that you have to pay such a huge contract to a player you aren't sure about just so you can buy some more time to see if they pan out.

Those first few years in the NBA are a waste of the NBA's time and dilute the product.

Right now is when Kanter should be first starting out his career, and looking to get paid in his mid 20's

Of course this is the doing of the players association and their greed. It's so players can earn more over a lifetime.

Also because no other profession (outside of porn) has an age limit. If you are skilled enough to do something, you should be able to do it and get paid and not have to make money for the greedy colleges.

What? You've never heard of granny porn?

Edit: Now I see you've meant on the other end of the scale. /facepalm haha.

Well, that's the point. They aren't skilled enough. They are drafted mostly off potential, then you wait forever to find out.

I say pay them in college, and pay them more when they enter the league. Plus make them go to the minor leagues.

Just get them off the court if they aren't ready.

Try to hold on to as many of our young assets as possible. These kids are going to be good eventually.

For high-caliber players, the best player development happens when they get to the NBA. The NBA game is so fast and physical, it's hard for a lot of college players to acclimate to it without being there, even in practices. Maybe the D League can play more of a role. Right now it's called the Development League, but it's not really used to develop the high-profile players.

Vucevic got 4 years and $53MM. Will be interesting to see if Kanter gets that on the open market. I suppose he could. It depends on whether he keeps scoring 20 pts a night.

I think Vucevic is a superior player to Kanter, but don't doubt that Kanter could fetch that much. It depends on the market this summer.
