8.9 Earthquake hits Japan.

The comments section of US based news websites regarding the Japan earthquake is absolutely incredible. Some of the things these people have to say is mind blowing. I had no idea there was so much animosity towards Japan.

It's shocking to me how people here are acting. I would never have thought that some animosity toward Japan either. These idiots talking about pearl Harbor act like this just went and took out all the 90 year olds who were responsible for it only.

My favorite is the people who say they are praying for Japan or something to that extent. Way to appear to be doing something while doing absolutely nothing.

I guarantee you that when Katrina happened the Japanese weren't sitting there saying, well this is karma for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I also have no idea where all this hatred towards Japan comes from.

American Exceptionalism is alive and well.

We're clearly more blesseder than any other nation on earth because of our charity, tolerance, and virtue.

Way to discount masses of peoples deeply held and cherished beliefs. Might as well ask if they are praying to Santa Claus.

Anyway the right way to criticize this is to quote this:

Matthew 6:1

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father.

Pretty much. That Facebook comments shot makes me sick. I really don't understand people like that.

Death toll estimated at 10,000

The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant looks like it's about to meltdown. They're desperately trying to cool it off using seawater. But what else can these people do? If the plant has been damaged to the point that they can't control the reaction anymore, what other alternatives do they have? Put seawater over it? Bury it with mud? What can they do?

No idea. Im a little apprehensive with the dire effects and the West Coast.

I am sure they will start to remove the fuel cells and get them into containment. The greates risk is with all fuel cells together as they will "feed" off each other. Separating them they can more effectively cool them to contain the reaction. They will continue to flush with sea-water and will also likely try to get the control rods operational again, but without a water bath it does not matter if they can slow the reaction, the heat will continue to build as the control rods merely slow the reaction, they do not stop it. One option for containment, provided the distance is not too great, is to move fuel cells to neighboring nuclear power plants that have capacity. Most do, as they seldom run with all available fuel cell slots filled. The problem here is to maintain temperature and fuel rod integrity during the move. Zirconium alloys are used for fuel rods due to its ductility under heat and resistance to corrosion, so that helps, but the temperatures that can be reached can exceed the melting point for even zirconium alloys such as zircaloy 2 or 4 or zirlo alloy which both have higher temperature ratings than other alloys.

All in all a very bleak outlook for the power plant and the surrounding communities.

Saying you will pray for them is = to or > than declaring your "condolences," "best wishes," or saying "your heart goes out to them," on a message board they won't read, so you appear empathetic.
