The Missing Piece

I have zero skin in the Jabari game but would love to hear why you didn’t include him.

Also, well thought out initial post.

My two cents... Jabari has more red flags than checked boxes.

Injury history
Defensive issues
Has some me first (much worse than PG imo)
Restricted FA means if u want him you likely give something up to Milwaukee to get him.

He’s a good but streaky shooter.
Can get his own shot but I’m not sure he’s elite.
Rest of his game ranges from meh to bad.

Theoretically he’s the guy we need but he’s actually not really at all. Would be a huge risk and would be a crushing blow if it fails.

Has a reputation as being somewhat lazy. Has blinders on after he decides to score. Always been a bad defender. Unathletic, very concerning injury history. Has said some lame **** in the press.

I don't think the fit is there.

Eh, I debate the unathletic part. He’s not elite but watching him a bit in the playoffs with some put backs and some other moves, he’s not bad there, IMO.

I’m probably overplaying our culture and development with the Jazz but I see someone like him and think “Quin gets that kid to realize his full potential and the culture of the team is ‘you play defense or you don’t play’” and that’s from the players themselves as well.

Again, I could be overplaying that but I haven’t written him off totally.

Side note: I invented the idea of Tobias Harris to the Jazz a long time ago and I have dudes at work that will totally vouch for that.

Most years there are a couple guys drafted outside the lottery that become blue chip players... or close to it. Odds are very low... I get it... but it might be the best odds of a low odds game.

I advocated for signing Tobias when he signed his extension in Orlando...

Also I have met two people that both claim to have invented trail mix... true story.

Some guys accept the burden and are made perfect by the refiners fire... some guys are trey Lyles or trey Burke or Rodney Hood.

I think that sums it up nicely.

That being said, I understand the appeal, and if gotten, would be positive and hopeful about it.

Tobias isn't a good defender at all.

Jabari isn't a good defender but he has put in effort and haa the size and athleticism to be a decent one. At his age and with our staff and system he could do fine on defense. Plus he adds everything Snyder wants in a 4. He can create, shoot, and pass.

I think Jabari is just as good or better at everything compared to Tobias and has a much bigger upside.

Jabari does have an injury history but Tobias is much older.

Dollar for dollar I'll take Jabari and it's not close.

We need someone with a commercial. A big name player that will allow the nba to open the doors to us Giving our franchise their starteam franchise. We need tempo next year so

Donovan Mitchell ...
No doubt Donovan will be getting commercials ... at the rate he's going, he'll be the most popular player in the NBA. Have people been paying attention to what people who aren't Jazz fans are saying about him? When I went to their game in Indianapolis, there were a slew of Donovan fans from Louisville. I sat next to two of them, and they were all excited about Donovan, just as much as any Jazz fan.
