Following Potential 2018 Draftees

What if....

The front office knew they were taking Grayson Allen and that's why they didn't schedule a draft party because they knew there would be some mixed reviews, negative videos, etc.

In the end, I highly doubt we draft Allen but I think he unfairly gets a bad wrap because people don’t like him.
Honestly my biggest issue is lack of length and the fact he's regressed since he was 20. Now 22, no improvement. And doesnt defend and due to size/length will have trouble ever being a good defender in the league.

Okogie is your guy, imo. Or Simons. Okogie the best combination of proven skill and upside, imo.

One thing I like about Okogie though is that he can play fast. When the game speeds up, he has no problem with it and actually plays better. If Troy Brown fails, part of the problem will be playing well at NBA speed.

Gonna be really surprised if Huerter is there at #21. I'm pulling for him #1, and the Moose second.

I won't be crushed if we draft Grayson Allen. I'd be slightly underwhelmed because I do feel his untapped upside is less than several other prospects in our range, but his floor is also much higher. He's one of the few guys at #21 who I think can come in and get minutes right away. Plus, his skill set fits in well with how bigger guards are expected to play in today's NBA.

I think I can be talked into Huerter, Okobo, Bates-Diop, or Wagner. Everyone is fairly milquetoast to me, but in the end of the day I trust Dennis & I haven't really followed this year's class.

#LockeWatch
Locke eliminated Melvin Frazier and Dzanan Musa from consideration in the first 2 minutes of his draft day podcast.

IMO it's all bur certain that if we go by #LockeWatch what we do is draft
1. Huerter if he falls to us
2. Grayson Allen
3. Mo Wagner...
4. dark horse option - trade up for Miles Bridges if he falls far enough.

IMO most realistically we draft Allen.

nbadraft.net made a single move on their latest mock draft edition and that's to move Grayson Allen from the 30s to 21 for the Jazz

DX/ESPN/Givony moved Grayson Allen to 21 to the Jazz in his latest mock today too.

edit: it seems like nbadraft has moved Allen up to 19 now.

"Locke eliminated Melvin Frazier from consideration within the first 2 minutes"....

My Melvin Frazier radar is still up. I swear I still have a feeling that the Jazz will leave this draft with Melvin Frazier on the roster one way or another.

- the draft process starts with buzz that the Jazz really like Frazier
- then that buzz dies down
- Frazier comes in for a workout and it's barely touched on by Jazz media members
- then all of a sudden Locke and Tony Jones both start speaking very highly of his game
- Walt Perrin goes on Sportsbeat to give his thoughts on about a dozen guys in the Jazz range at 21. Frazier is oddly absent from the show for a guy Jazz insiders were hyping (Mitchell and Bradley were absent from Perrin's tv breakdown last year)
- Frazier seems to be an afterthought at this point but his name still continues to be brought up. Locke still loves his game but is quick to dismiss him as the possible pick.

Seems odd to me...

He was bad on open shots last year.

Now, you could make the argument that that's the easiest thing for him to fix, but apparently his synergy shots were really weird where he did better when guarded. But if he's just bad at open shots, all you have to turn him into nothing is simply not guard him.

I want him lights out 40% from three and he wasn't there. He's a tweener on defense and I think he will be too slow laterally to guard good point guards and too small to guard wings. Will be like a bigger Neto on defense imo.

In the 30s? Great pick. Early 20s pass.

37% isn't bad, but it isn't as good as guys like Huerter, Okogie, Thomas, and Okobo. Especially when he's being drafted partially because of his "great" shooting.

And those guys have other advantages he doesnt. I don't see it.

Anfernee Simons @ 21
Devonte Graham in 2nd round for an immediate impact

That's a damn nice draft if you ask me and plausible

I actually would get Wagner more than I would get a Grayson Allen pick.

Like if you want to take Grayson Allen... just move back and get more stuff... if he isn't there take Carter, Brunson or another "immediate" contributor.

Perfect synopsis. Except I would add that he doesn't have the chops to run an offense full time, and that's basically the only possible way he'd be getting serious minutes here (EVENTUALLY!).

This assessment is making me cool down on The Michael Jordan of Delaware a bit, though. I think they all apply to him, too, I just think he is a better defender and just has more oomph to his game (being two years younger helps, too).

For the record, I hated the pick. All of the intel on his soft, lazy-*** was accurate and I bought in. I wouldn't have taken Booker, I would've tried to trade down and take Portis.

I did too, actually. I wanted Booker, thought he was the obvious pick. I don't think there was really anybody who was like YES when we picked Lyles. Just a bunch of people who either though "weird, i'll reserve judgement" or ppl who were like WHAT THE **** lol. I tried doing the former. I tend to be really patient with prospects and their development but during year 2 it became obvious that Lyles was/is washed

I wonder what Dallas will have to give up. If they give up #33, Atlanta has #30, #33, and #34. We should trade #21 for those 3 picks and take 3 of the following 7:

Josh Okogie
Melvin Frazier
Keita Bates-Diop
Grayson Allen
Anfernee Simons
Omari Spellman
Dzanan Musa

You also summarized my concerns on his shooting... if he is such a good shooter why aren't his open ones going down.

Honestly... I think I prefer Jevon Carter... clear role and is an obviously elite defender. He might be Fred Van Vleet, but I think he has a high percentage of becoming that. Trade back and take him. Or move back and get both of those guys. I think Robinson, Holiday, and some others rising will bring some great opportunities at 21... Allen would be a completely unsexy, meh, wtf pick imo.
