2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

What can Exum and or Davis plus 2 second round picks get us? I think this is the best offer we can make at this point.

Bobby Portis, Thaddeus Young, Al-farouq Aminu, maybe Jakob Poeltl (if the spurs don't want to pay him)

Maybe JJ Redick, Evan Fournier, or Terrence Ross

We could probably get Alec Burks back if we really want.

I think Exum needs to play a bit and get his trade value up.

woj just said Utah ain't calling anyone and are awaiting for teams to call them.
Sounds like nothing gonna happen
It’s amazing that someone can take that strategy rather than going out and finding what you want. It’s literally the KOC approach. It’s how he approached restricted free agency. It’s how he approached the DWill trade where he only talked to one team and valued “no leaks” over getting better talent.

People complicate the hell out of things. Or at least try to simplify it to a ridiculously stupid level. There was an old episode of King of the Hill where, if I recall, they thought Bobby was gay (or maybe I’m conflating this premise with the Simpsons episode) so they thought because Boomhauer always is able to have success with women, they send him with him to learn his tricks. But this ends up like watching the chef in the kitchen, or learning how a magic trick is done, and it ends up not nearly as spectacular as you envisioned.

If you want something, you’ve gotta go out and try to get it. Now, I know DL occasionally does this because he gets tunnel vision, but the goal should be “improve the team” and not just “I’ve got a hard on for player x.” It’s going to take a lot of rejection. Jack Nicholson’s character on the bucket list had “kiss the most beautiful girl in the world” on his list and, when asked how he would do that, responded with, “by volume!”

tl;dr pick up the damn phone.

It'd look stupid for us, but I want Crowder back and would certainly move Exum to do it.
We could have done that originally, but noooo...

That said, Crowder was 1-9 from deep tonight.

But Jae could put a body on LeBron and Kawhi probably better than anyone we’ve got.

I don’t know who this Christian Wood guy is but I look at his numbers and I like them. What would we have to trade for him? Just get @Handlogten's Heros in here talking about Wood, his length, his girth, and his ability to penetrate and I think we should be good.

Yes excellent, but what is his basketball play like?

He’s big enough that he can put a body on guys and should be agile enough to help with double teams.

It's hard to definitively upgrade the lineup of Conley, Mitchell, Bojan, Royce/Ingles, Gobert.

The roles we'd have open are a scoring guard/wing off the bench and a backup 4 who plays hard and rebounds.

Wondering how Bojan would do in tje second unit. Conley, Mitchell and rudy demand touches as starters.

Bojan is good at finding a shot and not so motivated to find a pass. Would he like to be the featured player in the second unit? Then trade for/sign/ or start using Brantley or Morgan as your starting pf.

I agree that we don't need to upgrade the starters.
I don't think we need a scoring guard because we have Mitchell, Conley, and Mudiay to fill that role. What we need for the bench is a glue guy/offensive facilitator who allows Ingles to spot up more and let our three scoring guards be aggressive on that end. My favorite player for both the bench needs would be Justise Winslow, but I don't think we could get him from Miami. A good alternative would be Kyle Anderson, and the third best option IMO is Thad Young.

The narrative coming from Tony of "this is the team... there is nothing they can do" is pretty weak... every year minimum guys shift around or are traded for seconds etc. I'm not saying trade Conley, I'm not saying get Sabonis or Aaron Gordon, I'm saying we can improve the bench with an addition or two in our price range. The bench is the biggest thing holding us back from winning more. There is no move that makes us a contender but improving our record so we don't face the LA teams or Houston in the first round is possible. If we can win a championship I'd at least like to get to the second round.

I feel like they kinda tried that and it didn't work. Bojan seems to be amazing when he is in kill mode looking for his shot. When he passes or tries to straddle both lines as a creator it has lead to indecision and turnovers. I think Conley in the second unit might work better, but I think they tried that early.

I think they need to mix some grinder, hustle types in the second unit and if Mudiay or Green have a good game then the bench units will stay afloat. We don't need them to be positive... just don't be a massive negative.

Tony Jones is adamant that this is the team, and he won't hear anything else.

Hmm.

He's also adamant that the current bench unit just needs chemistry. He's pushing the company line hard and it's annoying. Fans aren't stupid. We can see the bench sucks. If the team truly believes this bench just needs chemistry we are in deep f****** trouble. No amount of chemistry is saving this group.

The only acquisition that should matter is a PF that can rebound, defend, and run a pick and roll. Anything else is a bonus.

I doubt the assets are available to pull it off but we will see.
